The injury of ONE Women’s Atomwight MMA World Champion, Stamp Fairtex, threw the future of the ONE 167 event into disarray. Her popularity and ability to attract audiences meant her main fight against Denice Zamboanga was a significant draw. However, due to the injury, Tawanchai vs. Nattawut was upgraded from the co-main event to the main event.

Nevertheless, the fight itself was phenomenal, with a great performance from Nattawut. While Tawanchai won the decision on the judge’s scorecards, Jo gave him a real challenge. Tawanchai’s occasional lead leg body kick when pressured into a southpaw stance proved to be a key advantage. Additionally, his incredible balance on one leg was impressive. On the other hand, Nattawut did well on his exits and even landed a clean punch. However, his struggles with Tawanchai’s rear kicks ultimately proved to be a drawback.

Overall, it was a great fight, and the decision for Tawanchai to win by majority after five rounds seems fair. However, if you think the main event was only a good fight, you are wrong!

ONE 167: main event and other fights-results recap

ONE 167’s co-main event was also considered one of the best fights on the card. it featured ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, securing an impressive victory over Denis Puric via unanimous decision in their Catchweight kickboxing contest. Rodtang showcased amazing footwork and speed throughout the fight. While Puric put up a close fight, especially in the later rounds, the 39-year-old Muay Thai veteran couldn’t overcome Rodtang’s relentless pressure and clean striking. After nine minutes of intense action, Rodtang emerged victorious via unanimous decision with a score of 272-43, adding another win to his already impressive career.

Furthermore, in the Bantamweight Submission Grappling fight, current ONE Flyweight Submission World Champion Mikey Musumeci avenged his defeat against ONE Championship newcomer Gabriel Sousa in a 2021 grappling competition. Sousa attempted an early takedown, but this time Mususmeci utilized a knee lock to secure the submission victory in just 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Another exciting matchup was the Lightweight MMA debut of Kade Ruotolo. Already a dominant force in submission, grappling alongside his brother Tye Ruotolo, Kade wasted no time against fellow American grappler Blake Cooper, securing a win less than a round.

Moving on to the Featherweight Kickboxing scene, Sitthichai Sitssongpeenong delivered a winning performance against Masaaki Noiri, defeating him via unanimous decision after three rounds. However, one of the fan favorites was the Atomweight MMA fight between #2-ranked Muay Thai fighter Denice Zamboanga and newcomer Neolle Grandjean. Originally scheduled to face Stamp Fairtex, Zamboanga faced Grandjean after Stamp’s injury. Kade Ruotolo wasn’t the only debut; Johan Estupian also made his first appearance against Zafer Sayik in a Bantamweight Muay Thai fight. Estupinan secured a victory via unanimous decision after three rounds.
