Mikey “Darth Rigatoni” Musumeci owns one of the most complete Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu games today. And the American showed just how clinical he can get versus Osamah Almarwai at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III. The Evolve MMA representative defended his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title in some fashion inside 1stBank Center in Denver, Colorado, last Friday.

From the get-go, “Darth Rigatoni” searched for a match-winning submission, hunting at his Yemeni opposite number from the legs to his back.

Mikey Musumeci showcased relentless attacking to get the better of his opponent

Eventually, Musumeci sealed another successful title defense inside the Circle courtesy of an intelligently placed rear-naked choke that drew a tap at the 8:03 mark of the contest.

Speaking on his ruthless performance, Musumeci stated, “Yeah, like every second I’m in a match, I’m attacking a submission to finish the match. There’s not one second to in this match I wasn’t attacking to finish, you know. So I just kept attacking, attacking, attacking. Kind of like striking, where you’re looking for the knockout punch, I’m just attacking finishes every second, and then I finally got the finish in the end.”

Despite facing a very tactically sound opponent in Almarwai, Musumeci blistered past his rival’s defensive wall to lock in heel hook attempts from guard as soon as the match got underway. With his back on the canvas, the New Jersey native tried to force a tap by stretching and cranking Almarwai’s limb.

Mikey Musumeci was delighted to get superb feedback from the audience

But with slightly under three minutes of the contest remaining, Musumeci gave up that position to work on his foe’s back, a move that opened the doors for the match-winning rear-naked choke. Above all, “Darth Rigatoni” was pleased that he could treat the fans in Colorado to a grappling clinic from start to finish. He added that the audience inside the sold-out venue played their role and provided him some much-needed motivation to see off the tie.

Musumeci added, “It was definitely good feedback, I felt the energy from the crowd being here in America was amazing and it definitely was exciting to see in a submission grappling match. I was so nervous because submission grappling can be boring for viewership if they don’t know what it is. So I really wanted to make sure that the fans could appreciate and enjoy it just like the other martial arts on the ONE card.”
