Jonathan “The General” Haggerty knows he has to put in one of the best performances of his career if he wants to stand any chance of leaving the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium with the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title over his shoulder this weekend.

The Orpington native challenges longtime divisional king Nong-O Hama at ONE Fight Night 9 this Friday, April 21, and he’s aware of the intimidating resume his iconic opponent will be bringing into their main event battle.

With all that in mind, Haggerty vows to come out with all guns blazing when the opening bell sounds.

He told ONE:

“I’m coming in there in the first round to try and knock his head off. That’s what I do. That’s what I enjoy. That’s how I win. And, yeah, he better watch out for the elbows. Because just one [strike], and it’s going to stop the fight instantly. So watch out.”

“The General” is confident of his abilities, but the task ahead of him is bordering on impossible. Not many fighters are equipped with the striking arsenal to challenge Nong-O, let alone defeat him.

The support for Nong-O means nothing to Jonathan Haggerty

The Thai striking superstar has won all 10 of his outings in ONE. Seven of those have been World Title defenses, and his last five outings have ended with a highlight-reel finish.

But Haggerty’s style may prove to be the World Champion’s kryptonite. He has a talent for finding and exploiting the smallest of gaps in his opponent’s armor, and when he does, he works his way in and lands match-winning shots when the opportunity presents itself.

The 26-year-old star knows the odds will be against him on Friday night and that the crowd inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium will be standing firmly behind their hometown hero.

But, ultimately, he isn’t too concerned, as he knows he can put everything else out his head to focus on the task at hand.

“The General” added:

“I’m ready for it all. Most importantly, I’m ready for Nong-O. I know he’s got great support, which obviously is great.”

“You know, forget the fans, forget the crowd. It’s just going to be me and him in there at the end of the day. And, once I’m in there, I can’t hear anything anyway.

“At the end of the day, they’re not going to get in there. It’s going to be tunnel vision, and that’s it. The crowd is not going to be able to help him.”
