With Terrance McKinney backing him, is Jonathan Haggerty the next big thing in MMA?

Freddie Haggerty impressed everyone with his debut performance on ONE Friday Fights 49. He took on veteran fighter Dankalong Sor Dechapan. The 19-year-old struggled initially but later went on to light up his opponent and won the fight. He is currently 2-0 in his career and is up for his next clash against Kaichon Sor Yingcharoenkarnchang. 

Haggerty took the time to share the details of the clash on his Instagram account. Not only is the 19-year-old excited, but so is his brother Jonathan Haggerty. The 27-year-old, along with many others, poured in wishes for the upcoming fighter.

As a two-sport ONE World Champion, Jonathan Haggerty is already a legitimate star of combat sports. However, it seems his younger brother is also following in his footsteps. At 19, he is slowly and steadily making his way to the top and is ready for his next clash. After an impressive debut victory, he is now focused on his next opponent and took to Instagram to share the details. 

‘The General’ took notice of the post and took time to wish his younger brother well. He wrote, “Seen the work ethic first hand! All yours be.” Another fighter also wished the 19-year-old for his second professional fight and commented, “Your time brother.” Terrance McKinney also took time to send in his wishes for Freddie Haggerty and commented, “Game time lfg @freddiehaggerty_.” Not only did he receive wishes from the fighters, but it seems he has made quite a lot of fans in his brief career. 

One user made it clear that it was time for the younger Haggerty to rise to the occasion and commented, “Let’s go Fred good luck.” After an emphatic debut victory, most people now want him to win his next fight as one user commented, “Your time mate.” Haggerty usually uploads his training drills with his brother Jonathan Haggerty.

The 19-year-old is blessed to have a training partner like ‘The General’. However, the elder is not impressed with his debut performance and feels he can achieve more. He even shared a message for his younger brother.

The 19-year-old is pretty active on social media and often uploads his training clips. Born into a family of martial artists, it was just a matter of time before he took on the sport. Watching his brother train day in and day out inspired the 19-year-old to embark on his own journey. He impressed one and all with his debut performance and feels privileged to train under the watchful eyes of his brother. As a two-sport world champion, ‘The General’ pushes his younger brother in practice and is helping him sharpen his skills.

After his emphatic debut victory, the 27-year-old seemed supremely impressed with the victory. While many doubted the youngster, his brother was confident about his abilities. After the fight, he said, “He’s probably one of the best in the roster, in all honesty, technique-wise and with his power. He’s a Mini-Me. He needs a little bit more experience, but then who knows? He will definitely hold the ONE World Title, for sure.”
