Is Superlek the unstoppable force in ONE Championship, or will Haggerty pull off an upset?

As the months turn into days before ONE Championship’s return to the United States, the main event and full card for ONE 168: Denver has now been revealed to the world.  Two-sport World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty will put the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship on the line against flyweight kickboxing king “The Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the headlining bout of the Friday, September 6, show inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

Originally slated to be headlined by a ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Title showdown between reigning queen “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan and atomweight titleholder Stamp Fairtex, the card has seen a bit of a shuffle as the latter continues to recover from injury. As a result, the clash between two of the planet’s most dominant strikers was promoted from the co-main to the marquee battle.

Haggerty has been untouchable since moving up to the bantamweight ranks. The former flyweight Muay Thai king took the divisional crown from longtime titleholder Nong-O Hama in devastating fashion at ONE Fight Night 9 in April 2023. He followed that up with a stoppage victory over MMA king Fabricio “Wonder Boy” Andrade at ONE Fight Night 16 seven months later, which handed him the vacant bantamweight kickboxing crown.

Earlier this year at ONE Fight Night 19, the British brawler successfully defended the Muay Thai belt against Felipe “Demolition Man” Lobo to secure his sixth straight win overall. He’ll be highly motivated to avenge the loss he suffered against Superlek before they both joined ONE Championship. For his part, “The Kicking Machine” will be looking to make history by becoming only the second man in ONE history to hold World Titles in two different sports and weight classes simultaneously.

Superlek is on a 10-fight winning streak in ONE, which has seen him claim the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title and defend it successfully twice. And his talents aren’t limited to one sport either. He dealt Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon his first-ever loss in ONE’s striking ranks when they met in a catchweight Muay Thai contest at ONE Friday Fights 34 last September, and he confidently sits in the top-ranked contender position in the stacked flyweight division.
