ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Jarred Brooks appreciates a good fight card, and he’s hyped to see a banger headline the promotion’s upcoming event. On Friday, November 3, bantamweight titleholders Jonathan Haggerty and Fabricio Andrade are going to fight it out for the division’s vacant kickboxing strap in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The high-stakes battle will mark the first time World Champions from two different sports will contest a belt in a discipline they have yet to compete in during their ONE tenures. It’s hardly a gimmick, though, as MMA king Andrade was a kickboxing star prior to his move to the world’s largest martial arts organization. On the other side, Muay Thai titleholder Haggerty has shown himself to be one of the best strikers on the planet today.

Such a match couldn’t be seen in any other promotion, and that wasn’t lost on Brooks as he shared his thoughts. “That’s the type of s*** that makes me be like, “Man, ONE Championship is really better than the UFC.” Just because of fights like that, you know? And it isn’t even a mixed martial arts fight,” the American star said.
“The Monkey God” has done his homework before this weekend, and he has nothing but good things to say about Haggerty. Apart from his deadly striking arsenal, he believes that “The General” is also a great representative for the promotion.
“Haggerty is somebody that should be in an old kung fu movie, bro,” Brooks said. “He’s like the new Jean-Claude Van Damme. Love that guy. He’s fast. He’s to the point, he has a lot of precision ,and the way that he carries himself is good for our champion,” he added.
Meanwhile, the reigning strawweight MMA king said he feels a certain affinity to how Andrade approaches the fight game. Like him, “Wonder Boy” trashes his opponents with words before a fight and fists during, but they can also be great to hang out with when not in action.
Brooks compares Andrade to himself
As the mouthy star gets ready to watch a firefight between two elite strikers, he offers his take on what could happen when the bell rings. Giving a slight edge to Haggerty, Brooks isn’t counting out Andrade finding a way to win.

“Fabricio is kind of like me. That dude doesn’t give a s*** when it comes down to fight time. Like, he’ll be respectful and everything like that before, but fight week comes around, or anytime you talk about a fight, he’s like, ‘Ohh, let’s f*****g go.’ He’s about it. “The dude has crazy knees. The guy has crazy kickboxing abilities for a mixed martial artist,” Brooks said.
“So, I think that it’s edged out 60/40 Haggerty for me, but Fabricio can catch him with one of those knees or catch him with one of those teeps. He has those horse legs, man,” he said. “Don’t get me wrong, Haggerty has them teeps all day too, but his are more of a push while Fabricio’s is like underneath your ribs, in your ribs, in your liver, you know? He kicks way harder than Haggerty, but Haggerty does have better boxing, so that might be the counterpart to that match. But I’m super f****** excited for that,” he added.
