Is Aung La N Sang underestimating Shamil Erdogan, or is he right to be so confident?

Former two-division ONE MMA World Champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang is poised for a return to action after a year’s absence. He’ll be part of ONE’s second venture onto American soil at ONE 168: Denver, where he’ll face Turkish standout Shamil Erdogan in a middleweight MMA fight scheduled for September 6th in Colorado.

As his fight approaches, Aung La, in a recent interview with a reputable media outlet, downplayed Shamil Erdogan’s undefeated record since his professional MMA debut and went on to explain his reasoning.

Aung La N Sang, a veteran ONE fighter, has a long and successful history with promotion. In 2017, he defeated Vitaly Bigdesh to claim the ONE Middleweight MMA World Championship. Later, in 2018, Aung La extended his dominance by defeating Alexandre Machado for the vacant ONE Light Heavyweight MMA World Title, becoming a two-division champion.

Highlighting his extensive record and experience within the promotion, Aung La downplayed Shamil Erdogan’s undefeated record. “He’s not the first undefeated fighter I’ve faced, ” Aung La asserted. ” And he won’t be the last. I’m not fazed by it.”

However, Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang shouldn’t underestimate his opponent, Shamil Erdogan. The Turkish sensation boasts a perfect 9-0 record, including a recent victory over Fan Rong at ONE Friday Fights 22. In a recent interview, Aung La prioritized reclaiming ONE gold over focusing solely on Shamil Erdogan.

Aung La’s successful career hasn’t been without setbacks. He suffered consecutive losses to Reinier de Ridder that cost him both of his titles. However, he has bounced back impressively, currently riding a three-fight winning streak. His recent victory against Fan Rong in the United States further fuels his momentum as he aims to reclaim the ONE Middleweight MMA World Title.

The emotional significance of this goal is evident in his recent interview with The All-Star. “The belt is why I still fight,” he said.”But a lot of things can happen, you know. Because of that, my eyes are only on September 6. I don’t care about anything past that or before that.”
