Mikey Musumeci is one of the best grapplers in the world today, but he continues to find ways to become an even better version of himself. It’s difficult to imagine that he still has another level to unlock in his skills, but the ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion revealed that he has found a way to improve his conditioning further.
Over the past several months, Musumeci spent time training in the famed PK Saenchai Muay Thai Gym in Thailand, where he says he picked up a new secret. “Muay Thai is the best for conditioning.” He told ONE in a very recent interview. Here’s everything he had to say.

“So that’s my next secret that I’m going to use for my conditioning for jiu-jitsu. You do Muay Thai, and then jiu-jitsu feels like the easiest thing ever,” he told ONE in a recent interview. “Darth Rigatoni” was ready to showcase his improved conditioning when he faced Japanese martial arts legend, Shinya Aoki, in their Openweight submission grappling contest at ONE Fight Night 15 this past October.
However, it was his superior technique that helped him finish the former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion just a little over three minutes into their scheduled 10-minute bout.
As he awaits the next challenger to his throne, the Evolve MMA representative will certainly be confident that he can go the distance if needed. Especially if he incorporates Muay Thai in his training regimen. “Dude, you die. It’s like pure power and sprints,” he said.
Mike“Every punch and kick is 100 percent power. So then you do jiu-jitsu training, and you’re laughing. There’s nothing harder than that on your body,” Musumeci reiterated further. The American grappling star won all four of his bouts in 2023, and he teased on his Instagram recently that he has signed an agreement for his next outing in ONE already.
