Tye Ruotolo is excited to showcase his skills for ONE Championship fans around the world once again this weekend. However, the stakes couldn’t be higher for the American star. Ruotolo fights next in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Friday, November 3.
He is set to take on promotional newcomer Magomed Abdulkadirov for the inaugural ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Title and he’ll certainly have his work cut out for him. Although it will be the first time that Abdulkadirov competes in ONE, the Russian star has competed in prestigious grappling tournaments. Further, he has even won the ADCC European Trials Championship.

Abdulkadirov also has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is well-versed in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and freestyle wrestling. This leaves Ruotolo excited for their highly anticipated matchup. “When we fight, I want to lock horns, and it’s going to be a war for sure at the beginning,” he told ONE in a recent interview.
“He’s got good wrestling. My wrestling has improved a lot over the past four years, and I’m really excited to put it to the test against Magomed,” he added.
Across his perfect 4-0 slate in the world’s largest martial arts organization, Ruotolo has forced a tap from three of his opponents. The 20-year-old star will be looking to add to that number against Abdulkadirov, but he admits it won’t be a guarantee due to the high-level skill set of his opponent.

Further, Ruotolo believes his constant wars while training with his brother Kade have prepared him to exploit the slightest openings in the fight. Also, his brother is the ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion.
Tye Ruotolo about training with his brother
“It’s going to be hard to find a window, but my brother and I have been training 17 years. That’s my thing, finding windows. I should be able to find the window. And if I can’t, it means I just didn’t do everything I should have,” Ruotolo said.

“You know, I truly believe there’s no chance, if I’m fully prepared, that he’s going to take the win. There’s no way.” While he has plenty of weapons in his arsenal, the Atos representative has a couple of chokes he usually relies on to finish a fight. Ruotolo may try them against Abdulkadirov, but if he sees other opportunities, he promises to take them in order to win the prestigious belt in style.

“Before, I used to have certain submissions that I would like to hit. You know, the D’Arce, or I’d want to hit a buggy choke. And at the end of the day, now I just want to submit my opponent no matter what,” he said.
