Kade and Tye Ruotolo have enjoyed a dream start to their respective tenures in ONE Championship. With a collective 5-0 run against some of the Singapore-based promotion’s top grappling stars under their belt, the 19-year-old twins are expected to continue their dominant streak in 2023. But media and fans, who have loved what they have seen from the teenage sensations, have also raised one intriguing question – would the twins ever compete against each other in ONE?

For his part, Tye foresees this happening in the future.
Despite dominating ONE Championship Kade Ruotolo hasn’t defeated Tye Ruotolo
“[Kade] has the 170-pound belt, and I can still make it down to 170 with some time. I want to be fighting for a belt, and my brother and I can have a match at some point, for sure. We can market that. It would be crazy. An absolute barnburner of a match,” he shared.
A match inside the Circle wouldn’t be the first time these prodigies have squared off, though. ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion Kade pointed out that he hasn’t earned a win over his brother yet, and that makes him even more motivated to face him.
“I’m technically 0-3 against [Tye] in competition, so I want that one more than he does,” he said. It’s easy to understand why they’ve been put in the hot seat to square off on the global stage.
Kade took out Japanese MMA icon Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki in his debut, before he made quick work of Russian sambo specialist Uali Kurzhev to claim the lightweight submission grappling gold in October. The divisional king then defended his throne with another dominant display against Matheus Gabriel on December 3 in the co-main event of ONE on Prime Video 5: De Ridder vs. Malykhin.
Tye Ruotolo doesn’t want to face Kade, but he might have to
Tye, meanwhile, earned two statement wins over tough opponents. In his first appearance inside the Circle, he finished Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon with his signature D’Arce choke in just 97 seconds. He returned on the lead card of ONE on Prime Video 5, where he forced former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov to tap out via armbar.

Despite it being a submission grappling match for the ages, Tye admits that sharing the Circle with his twin brother is not a top priority. He would prefer to let Kade conquer his division while he does the same in a different weight class.

“The last couple of years, I’ve had maybe a 5-pound weight advantage on him, so I’ve just been going up in divisions so we can stay away from each other,” he said.

“Because, at the end of the day, I don’t like to fight him that much. He’s super tough, and it’s my brother at the end of the day. I’ve been moving up, fighting all the big guys, and I’m figuring out the formula.”
