Reigning ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion Kade Ruotolo is hungry to test himself against the planet’s most talented ground fighters.
To that end, he’ll soon step into the ring at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Boxing Stadium to go toe-to-toe with dangerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Francisco Lo in an intriguing 180-pound catchweight submission grappling tilt at ONE Fight Night 21: Eersel vs. Nicolas on Prime Video.

That match will go down this Friday, April 5, and has grappling enthusiasts around the globe captivated. Lo will be making his promotional debut and brings with him plenty of hype. The 23-year-old Brazilian boasts a number of high-profile victories and is world-renowned for his innovative and unique submissions, proving himself capable of ending any match at a moment’s notice.
Ruotolo admits that when he locks horns with Lo, he’ll need to be wary of everything his foe throws at him. The Californian said: “It seems like all of his main attacks, his main submissions, are kind of things he pulls out of his back pocket, things you don’t really see coming. It doesn’t worry me. It’s something that makes me stay alert. It’s a type of fight that you got to stay on your A-game and stay alert the whole time because you can’t really let your guard down and just kind of be relaxed.”
Given Lo’s penchant for finding the submission, many fans might think Ruotolo is taking a big risk in this non-title affair. While that’s true, the lightweight submission grappling kingpin says that he wants nothing but tough fights, and Lo will certainly give him that:
“I know Francisco is a beast. It’s not like he has the most amount of clout or whatever I get from beating him, it’s more of the sense that I’m going to feel good after beating him because I know he’s a tough jiu-jitsu practitioner. I’ve watched him beat tough guys, and I like beating tough guys. That’s kind of my thing, in the simplest way possible.”

Ruotolo will have to be super sharp in this one
Of course, Ruotolo will be gunning for the submission at ONE Fight Night 21, but he’s not approaching the matchup with a particular game plan in mind. Quite the opposite, he plans to take whatever Lo gives him and pick up another highlight-reel submission. Ruotolo added:
“I’m not sure exactly what he’s got in mind, but for me personally, I think it could go in any direction. Even more so than any match I’ve had in the past, this one is a solid question mark. I don’t really care, I don’t really have a preference, whatever he shows me, I’m going to take it.”
