Nico Carrillo shined brightly this past weekend as he took out a Muay Thai legend in Nong-O Hama in front of a packed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

At ONE Friday Fights 46: Tawanchai vs Superbon this past weekend, “King of the North” knocked out Nong-O in the second round of their bantamweight Muay Thai showdown.

With the win, Carrillo cemented his place among the elite of the division, and could soon find himself in contention for the gold held by Jonathan Haggerty. However, he celebrated his win by giving Nong-O the reverence that he deserves.

“The legend, Nong-O! Everybody, clap your hands, this man is a legend,” he said during the in-ring interview following the fight.

“Thank you so much for letting me share the ring with you. I have watched you since I was a child. Thank you!”

In return, Nong-O graciously asked the crowd to cheer on his opponent as he congratulated him. He also promised to come back stronger in his next outing.

“Congratulations, Nico. You are a good fighter. Hey, everyone, he is younger than me, but respect. He beat me today, but he respects me. Of course, I respect him back. Congratulations, my friend,” he said.

“I want to say thank you everyone here for the support. Thank you, my team. We worked hard together for this fight, but nevermind. Sometimes we lose, sometimes we win, but I can learn. I’ll see you again next time!”

While the knockout was incredible in itself, what made the feat even more impressive was the fact that his legs appeared heavily damaged from Nong-O’s accurate striking in the first round.

Using his hands exclusively to generate offense, the fiery Scot unloaded on Nong-O and dropped flat on his back. He warned future opponents to knock him out, otherwise he will keep coming.

“It’s not over until it’s over. I have no quit in me, so if you want to beat me, you have to knock me out because I have no quit in me at all,” he said.

Before he ended the interview, he set his sights on the reigning king of the division with a short message.

“Tick-tick, tick-tock, Jonathan Haggerty, I’m coming for that belt,” he said.
