Danial Williams wants to become a multi-sport World Champion in ONE Championship, and he has an opportunity to take the first step towards that goal in his next match.
The Aussie-Thai spitfire is set to challenge Jonathan Di Bella for the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE Fight Night 15: Tawanchai vs. Superbon on Friday, October 6. Their match is one of three World Titles on the line at the event, which will be broadcast live from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Danial Williams Aiming For Multi-Sport Glory
“Mini T” has faced only the best in the striking arts during his tenure in the world’s largest martial arts organization, challenging both the flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon and flyweight kickboxing titleholder Superlek Kiatmoo9. In a recent interview with ONE, Williams shared that he has had his eyes on Di Bella’s belt for some time and expressed his excitement that the Italian-Canadian striker is now willing to accept the challenge.
“I called him out a while ago, and then he heard about it, took note of it, and said he really wanted that fight. So I was like, ‘This is awesome,’” he said. “It’s good to get the opportunity to fight him and see who is the best kickboxer in our division. I want to fight the best in ONE Championship, and he is awesome. They give me the best matches.”
The 30-year-old has three wins in MMA under his belt during his ONE tenure, but he has yet to register a win in striking competition. He is looking to change that in his next match, which will stand as the first time Williams has competed in either Muay Thai or kickboxing at his natural weight.
Williams is ready for the upcoming clash
This might give him an edge against Di Bella, and if he scores a win, “Mini T” is ready to go on a rampage. “I wanted to be the Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA champ [in ONE]. It still is my goal. I’m just more focused on the one area now,” Williams said.
“Before, I was still training in all the sports, but the learning curve from the last couple of fights is to focus on one area first, and this is how it’s going to be done. “So, I’ve got the kickboxing opportunity now. I’ll put all my energy into that. Studying my opponent, getting into his mind, and putting everything I have into training.”
