Liam “Hitman” Harrison is one of the most accomplished Muay Thai practitioners to come out of England, and he doesn’t appreciate how the next generation of fighters from his homeland are counting him out before they even step into the ring with him.

“Hitman” is recovering from a leg injury but has been keeping up with all the action in ONE Championship. He was in the United States for ONE Fight Night 10 and made it known that he was watching as Jonathan “The General” Haggerty shocked the world by taking out Nong-O Hama at ONE Fight Night 9 to earn the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship.

Following his win, Haggerty was asked about a potential showdown with his fellow Englishman in the future. “The General” said he was open to the matchup, but he threw some shade at Harrison by claiming it’s the “easiest fight in the division” for him.

Liam Harrison demands respect

In an interview with ONE Championship, Harrison addressed the new World Champion’s comments, and he didn’t hold back his displeasure.

“He’s never really shown me any respect at all, and I think that was a pretty disrespectful comment that he said there, especially after what I’ve done,” he said. “I’ve knocked out more top-level fighters than he’s even had fights.”

The 37-year-old has over 100 fights on his resume, including 50 wins by TKO or knockout, in a career that has spanned over two decades. He has impressed in the bantamweight Muay Thai division in ONE, having claimed back-to-back first-round knockouts, including the 2022 ONE Muay Thai Fight of the Year against Muangthai PK Saenchai.

Giving credit where it’s due, but not without teaching a lesson

Harrison challenged Nong-O for the World Title last August but suffered a devastating leg injury in the match that has left him out of commission since.

Meanwhile, former flyweight Muay Thai king Haggerty made the decision to move up last November. After defeating Vladimir Kuzmin in a catchweight tussle, he got the chance to take on Nong-O for his long-held belt in April, and he did what 10 other fighters in ONE couldn’t – defeat the Thai legend.

“The General’s” confidence is sky-high following his latest victory, and Harrison credits him for the win. However, he believes it’s up to him to remind the 26-year-old who he is and why he should put more respect to his name.

“Yeah, he beat Nong-O. Blistering performance. Congratulations to him for that, and well done to him for what he’s achieved. I always try and show him props. Show him respect and cheer him on. But I don’t feel like I get the same thing back,” he said.

“He’s just got no respect whatsoever, and I want to humble him. I’ll bring him back down to earth with a crash if he thinks I’m the easiest fight in that division because I guarantee he hasn’t fought anyone who can hit as hard as I do.”
