Yu Yau Pui has been on a roll in ONE Championship, and she may be on the brink of challenging for the divisional crown with another win on U.S. primetime this weekend.
The Hong Kong native will get a chance to get her seventh win in a row at ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart this Friday, August 2. For that event, she will square off against Scottish star Amy Pirnie in an atomweight Muay Thai battle inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

After earning a six-figure contract to compete in the promotion’s marquee events, the 31-year-old quickly proved that she deserves to be on a larger stage by defeating former World Title challenger Lara Fernandez in her U.S. primetime debut at ONE Fight Night 20 in March.
With a win against the highly decorated Pirnie, Yu could be in line for a World Title shot against ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues.
Speaking to ONE in an interview, she says the fight is not for her to make, but will be ready to take the challenge when it indeed comes. “I don’t know [if a win would earn a World Title shot]. It depends on ONE Championship. It depends on Mr. Chatri [Sityodtong]. But now that I’m in ONE Championship, when the time comes, I’ll beat her if I can,” she said.

She added, “She’s very strong. Not just her body, of course, but her mindset is also very strong. After she gave birth, she came back and defended her title. I think this is a very powerful thing for female fighters to do. She’s also very skillful. I respect her a lot. If I get a title shot and it’s a five-round match, I will need to find an opening to defeat her in round three or round four maybe.”

Since her arrival in the world’s largest martial arts organization, Rodrigues has only been part of World Title bouts. She took the coveted belt from Thai superstar Stamp Fairtex in her promotional debut at ONE: A NEW BREED back in August 2020 and took a break from competition to welcome her child to the world.
Upon her return, she would claim undisputed status by defeating interim world titleholder Janet “JT” Todd at ONE Fight Night 8 in March last year. Six months later, she stepped in on short notice for the injured Jackie Buntan to challenge the women’s strawweight Muay Thai world champ Smilla Sundell but fell in the third round of their match.
In her last outing at ONE Fight Night 20, the Brazilian striker got back in the win column with a dominant performance against Spain’s Cristina Morales to assert her dominance in the division.

A match against the all-action Yu will surely be an exciting matchup to watch, but she must first get past Pirnie to make it happen. The Scottish star is riding a 19-fight win streak and is considered one of the best female fighters on the planet.
This weekend look for Yu to take control of her destiny with a performance of a lifetime at ONE Fight Night 24 to show that she is ready to challenge for ONE gold.
