“Super” is delighted to get his career off and running again. He feels confident of his chances against the Pakistani star but admits there will be a few butterflies in his stomach once the Circle doors lock at 1stBank Center in Denver, Colorado, next month.

Sage Northcutt eyes to prove his worth after a mental battle regarding his return

Speaking to ONE Championship, Northcutt shared, “Everybody’s got nerves when they go into a fight. It doesn’t mean you’re nervous about fighting, but you get the butterflies, you get excited, you get amped up. So, of course, I’ll be feeling all those things.”

Northcutt arrived at ONE with hype behind him, given the three-fight winning streak he was on. But the devastating defeat he suffered at the hands of Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre in 2019 slowed his progress significantly.

“Super” has had more than enough time to get over that loss, however, and he’s keen to make a statement in his second outing to show the world why he was seen as one of the most promising stars in mixed martial arts.

Both Sage Northcutt and Ahmed Mujtaba’s drive to win would make the bout an enthraller

But while he may be physically ready to throw down against Mujtaba, the Team Alpha Male representative cannot deny that getting himself mentally set to compete again has taken some time.

He added, “Well you know, I have competed a lot since a very young age, fought in 14 professional fights, only 26 right now, but I came to the sport very young. Having some time off, I mean obviously, everybody’s got nerves, if you don’t, that’s kind of different.”

Preparing for such a challenging opponent is no mean feat. Mujtaba enters this duel on the back of two first-round finishes, and he will be motivated to put on a special performance against Northcutt. A victory will be a top priority for him, but “Super” will be just as keen to score the crucial win, meaning this lightweight battle will be fascinating to watch when it goes down on May 5.
