Superbon Singha Mawynn competed in his first match since losing the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title this past weekend, and he showed everyone why it won’t be long before he competes for the gold again.

The Thai superstar knocked out Tayfun Ozcan with a devastating head kick at ONE Fight Night 11 on Friday, June 9, and his finish could garner him his second Knockout of the Year award.

The win deservedly earned a US$50,000 bonus, and it will stand as a confidence booster for the former divisional king, who dropped the World Title to Chingiz Allazov in January.

Following the win, Superbon asserted that he should never be counted out.

“I focused more than the last fight when I lost because I can’t lose anymore. I will stay here until I am the best, and I’m still the best. And losing once doesn’t count me out. Yeah, I believe that,” he said.

Superbon Singha Mawynn will have to wait

The 32-year-old utilized his experience to perfection against #5-ranked contender Ozcan. The Turkish-Dutch started strong and looked to be gaining momentum in the opening frame, but Superbon weathered it all and waited for his chance.

It came in the second frame, when Ozcan stepped in to try and continue his aggressive attack. The Thai superstar sprang from there and countered his opponent’s melee with a left head kick that instantly shut his lights out and ended the match.

Superbon now sets his sights on a World Title, but he’ll have to wait for the winner of the upcoming tussle between reigning king Allazov and #2-ranked Marat Grigorian at ONE Fight Night 13 on Prime Video on August 4.

Nothing comes before the belt

While the top-ranked contender is eager to avenge his loss to “Chinga,” he understands that he might not have the strap after his match with Grigorian.

He offered his thoughts on the tussle in an interview with ONE and wished both athletes luck at the same time.

“It’s a 50/50 game for me. Yeah, they fought before. They beat each other. Marat has beaten him before. I’m not sure about the fight. But whoever wins and has the belt, I want to take the belt first. Then I will have the rematch after,” Superbon said.
