ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan Haggerty wants to stay active in the sport he reigns over. However, he couldn’t let an opportunity to become a two-sport titleholder slip by. ‘The General’ will take on bantamweight MMA king Fabricio Andrade for the division’s vacant kickboxing crown in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 this Friday.

Being held on November 3, the event will take place inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Haggerty ended Thai striking legend Nong-O Hama’s 10-fight winning streak at ONE Fight Night 9 this past April to claim the Muay Thai strap. Further, he was all set to defend it and cement his dominance in his next outing. But the Brit star couldn’t resist when the fight with Andrade was suggested.

“I originally wanted to defend my Muay Thai belt. I’ve always said, ‘You’re not a champion until you defend your World Title,’” he told ONE in an interview. “[But] when it was offered to me to do a kickboxing fight for the World Championship, I couldn’t turn it down. You know, I want all the gold. So, the more gold, the better.”

With his win over Nong-O, Haggerty became a two-division World Champion, having held the flyweight crown in 2019. But now that he has found a home in a heavier weight class, the 26-year-old is looking to add more prizes to his collection, and he’s starting with a new sport.

Jonathan Haggerty always wanted to be a dual champion!

Multiple World Titles has always been in ‘The General’s’ mind, and competing in the world’s largest martial arts organization allows him to vie for straps across not only varying divisions, but also different disciplines.

“It’s always been my dream since I started in ONE Championship. That was the goal, I said it all the time, ‘One belt on the left shoulder and the other one on the right shoulder,’” he said.  “But right now, I want all of them, and I also want my belt around my waist. Once that’s done, then my dream is done.”
