Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen understands he must find the same fire that took him to the top of the featherweight division if he wants another shot at the gold.

The Vietnamese-Australian slugger moved closer to his goal by picking apart Kirill Gorobets at ONE: LIGHTS OUT earlier this year, and he’s keen to maintain that momentum against Ilya Freymanov at ONE on Prime Video 2 this Friday, September 30.
Martin Nguyen is coming to ONE on Prime Video 2 with a full arsenal
However, Nguyen believes he will face a harder test in this outing than he did in his last, and, because of that, he has prepped his entire arsenal in case his Russian foe surprises him.
“Styles make fights, so we’ll see what happens. I’m going to come in there. I might bang. I might come in there with my wrestling. I don’t know. I recently got my jiu-jitsu brown belt, so if it hits the ground, I’m not sure if he wants to be with me and build me on the floor,” the 33-year-old said.
“I’ll make him look like a fish out of water. That’s for sure. But yeah, it’s his style. We got to start on the feet no matter what. It works in his favor as a kickboxer, so we’ll put him to the test.”
“The Situ-Asian” may not be as accomplished in kickboxing as his upcoming foe, but his striking has proved to be one of his go-to tools inside the Circle.
His trademark right hand has put numerous opponents to sleep, and his piercing knee even finished former divisional king Narantungalag Jadambaa at ONE: ROOTS OF HONOR in April 2019.
Another classic highlight-reel moment should see him take a huge step toward the ONE Featherweight World Title, but Nguyen wants to take one fight at a time.
Martin Nguyen is not pressing for only a title shot
The Sanford MMA athlete feels the opportunity will eventually present itself, as long as he keeps collecting wins in the Circle.

“Yeah, I feel like I would like the title shot. But I’m not in a rush. I’ve been calling out ranked guys since my last fight. Give me Yoshiki Nakahara, give me Kim Jae Woong. Since the champ was fighting Tang Kai, give me anyone that is in the top-five ranks,” Nguyen said.

“But those guys were booked or unavailable. So they brought this guy in. As I said, every fight that I have is going to be the hardest fight of my life whether the guy is ranked or not.”
