Can Rampage Jackson turn back the clock and take down Rashad Evans in a boxing ring?

MMA legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson could be meeting a familiar foe soon but in a totally new environment.

Jackson appeared on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience to talk about a potential boxing debut on the very same card ONE Championship’s three-division MMA World Champion Anatoly Malykhin defends his heavyweight crown against “Reug Reug” Oumar Kane.

The card in question is ONE 169: Atlanta, which takes place inside the State Farm Arena in U.S. primetime on Friday, November 8.

Quinton Jackson targets Rashad Evans for his boxing debut

“My first boxing match is gonna be with Rashad Evans, I got to get that win back,” he told Rogan in the episode.

“They were talking about Atlanta,” he said in reply to a potential venue.

“I’m not sure, but he said it’s gonna be under the ONE [Championship] banner. He’s telling me, I’m waiting for my manager to talk to him.”

While the event is more than confirmed, with a Tawanchai PK Saenchai and “Smokin” Jo Nattawut trilogy for the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship also locked in, the possible addition of a heavyweight scrap between Jackson and Evans will be music to the ears to combat sports fans.

Have an interesting take?

Neither Jackson nor Evans is signed with ONE Championship, which makes this announcement quite surprising.

The legendary pair have had quite the history together, coaching on opposing sides of The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights back in 2009. They were expected to fight at UFC 107 in December that year but it did not materialize following some conflict between “Rampage” and UFC.

They eventually threw down when they met at UFC 113 in May 2010, where Jackson lost via unanimous decision. The pair have since gone on to compete in different organizations and pursued vastly different paths.

“Rampage” is intrigued by ONE Championship

Now, it looks like they are rekindling their old rivalry in a boxing match. Upon learning that the event is set to happen in ONE Championship, Rogan was almost not surprised because of the promotion’s diverse offerings in each of its events.

“ONE does everything. That’s an interesting organization. Because they’ll have an event where they do grappling, kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA,” he said.
