Despite having only competed inside the ONE Championship Circle once so far, the Italian-American star believes the Singapore-based promotion stands out amongst its competitors for a couple of reasons.

Mikey Musumeci reflects on ONE Championship’s contribution to jiu-jitsu

According to Musumeci, the lack of integrity and a sense of dishonor are two of the biggest threats to the growth of the discipline – and these disreputable mindsets have no place in ONE.

“Well, jiu-jitsu, the problem is, why I’m saying this, the problem is jiu-jitsu, there are a lot of people that don’t really have good values or morals in jiu-jitsu, but they’re successful in winning,” he offered.

“So, because they’re successful in winning, everyone believes, ‘Oh, wow, this person has a voice.’ Like, ‘This person is a champion, so, they must be doing things right.'”

“But just because they win a medal, that doesn’t mean anything, you know? They’re horrible humans, that doesn’t make them. Just because they’re successful in jiu-jitsu, it doesn’t have anything on life, do you understand? So, people then try to replicate how these people are as people.”

ONE Championship is raising the bar with submission grappling

“ONE is helping jiu-jitsu in so many positive ways, you know. And my goal is to help jiu-jitsu as much as I can as I get older, you know? I just want to have a better impact, and I want to make it a positive place for everyone,” he said.
