Halil Amir is ready to pick up another victory and continue his ascend to the top of the lightweight division. On April 21 at ONE Fight Night 9: Nong-O vs. Haggerty on Prime Video, the undefeated Turkish sensation will square off with Swiss standout Maurice Abevi at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Like Amir, Abevi spots an undefeated resume that will be on the line next week. However, the Turkish star is unimpressed with his foe’s 6-0 slate and finishing abilities.

Halil Amir saw nothing special in Maurice Abevi
Speaking to ONE Championship, the #4-ranked lightweight contender said, “I don’t see anything too big as a danger. He looks like a standard fighter”. On paper, at least, Abevi seems to be a guy who could push him through his paces.
The 360 Martial Arts and Tiger Muay Thai representative has four first-round knockouts and a pair of submission wins to back his hype. But none of that comes as a source of concern for Amir, though. Truth be told, he isn’t worried one bit because he’s seemingly confident in his own abilities.

Besides, the Antalya native’s wins have come against far superior fighters than Abevi’s, and his devastating knockout of Timofey Nastyukhin may add credibility to his spot at the Singapore-based promotion. On April 21, he plans to implement the same game plan he used to finish the former ONE Lightweight World Title challenger – one that he’s depended on throughout his seven-year career as a pro.
Halil Amir planned to go all out in his matchup against Maurice Abevi
The 28-year-old added, “Pressure, I’m going to apply pressure from the first second and see if he will hold up to my pace. I don’t want to leave it to the judges, as usual. I don’t go directly to the knockout – the knockout itself comes.”

With a chance to possibly climb a couple of spots in the lightweight rankings and an opportunity for him to prove why he should challenge for the lightweight crown, Amir promises that he won’t hold anything back when he meets Abevi next Friday.
Let’s see whether he can back his claims up in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 9: Nong-O vs. Haggerty, broadcasting live from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
