Aung La N Sang's 'kill or be killed' mindset—Is this the warrior spirit MMA needs?

Former two-division champion Aung La N Sang is set to prove to many that he is far from finished. After dropping his belts in 2021, ‘The Burmese Python’ has rallied by winning four of his five fights in a quest to challenge for gold once again. The 39-year-old took to his YouTube channel to share an insight about his training camp.

He said, “Today’s sparring day we go live MMA rounds with the 16-ounce gloves, so we kind of bang today go hard. I took five rounds of beating from my training partners. We try to hurt each other, but We don’t try to injure each other. And that’s the key, having training partners that will push you and get you better”. “My goal is to get sharper in shape to be capable of a good three-round fight, and my training partners are going to get me ready for sure. It doesn’t matter which round, you know, first round, second round, third round, I have to be dangerous at all rounds. I think I am one of those fighters that push opponents. We’re gonna see how much this guy can get pushed, you know. So, for this fight, I’m going to look to push kill or be killed. One of them is going to happen,” he said.

Talking about his opponent, Shamil Erdogan, the 34-year-old has made an impressive start to his ONE Championship career. Erdogan has all the skills to become one of the toughest fighters in the middleweight division. Both fighters have a completely different fighting style, which makes the clash even more enjoyable. Let us take a closer look at how the pair could approach their next clash.

Will Shamil Erdogan’s wrestling prove too much for Aung La N Sang?

After 19 thrilling fights in the world’s largest martial arts organization, Aung La N Sang has cemented himself as a global superstar. However, he is constantly challenging himself to elevate his game. His next opponent is fairly new in the promotion but has raised many eyebrows with his debut performance. The undefeated Turkish fighter took on Fan Rong in his debut and ended it with an impressive knockout. The 34-year-old is a decorated freestyle wrestler and feels he holds a distinct advantage over his opponent.

During a recent interview with ONE Championship, the 34-year-old made it clear that the former champion will find it tough against him. His clearest path to victory are his takedowns, his lethal ground and pound, and suffocating top control. However, Aung La will definitely not be a pushover. The 39-year-old has the ability to knock people out with his brutal striking and is also able to bring out his wrestling skills when needed. With so much at stake, the former champion warned his opponent and said, “Ten years, 20 fights, man. Put some respect on my name. But I’m excited, man. The best is yet to come, and I promise you that I’m not just saying that. The best is yet to come, and I’m gonna put on a banger fight.”
