The first-ever ONE Flyweight Muay Thai Champion, Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, announced his retirement from the promotion in 2021. One of the most decorated Muay Thai and kickboxing combatants of the promotion also holds championships across two weight divisions. The Thai bagged his first ONE Championship belt in the form of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai Championship in the year 2018.

Sam-A defeated the Dutch, Sergio Wielzen, via a unanimous decision to claim his first world title. But, he couldn’t manage to defend his title even once as he lost it out to the noted British fighter, Jonathan Haggerty. But Sam-A apparently possesses an unmatched fighting spirit. The 39-year-old recently revealed his wish to have another title on his shoulder as he was eyeing a return to ONE once more.

Sam-A Gaiyanghadao chose March as his comeback month

Sam-A revealed his wish via an Instagram post a couple of days back. ONE viewers already knew about his never give up mentality. At 39 years of age, the Thai displayed the same once more in his post as he captioned it, “Soon”.

The snap in his post showcased one more of his iterations, saying, “See you soon in @onechampionship. I will come back to take the belt and put it on my shoulder again.”

The Instagram page of ONE Championship also shared Sam-A’s post. Further reports suggested that he had chosen the month of March to make his comeback at the iconic Lumpini Stadium in Bangkok.

However, the event in which he would have his return bout hasn’t been declared yet. But, it’s evident that ONE Championship viewers will be enthralled to have one of their noted former champions back in the promotion.

Most ONE fans will agree to the fact that Sam-A definitely has what it takes to become a champion. The Thai fighter has already showcased his mettle multiple times as he boasts title reigns over two weight divisions of ONE.

Gaiyanghadao knows how to win belts

After losing out his ONE Flyweight Muay Thai Championship to Jonathan Haggerty, Sam-A chose to move down to Strawweight to test his fate there. He also came up with the best possible results, bagging both the kickboxing and Muay Thai titles of the division. Sam-A earned decision victories, initially over Wang Junguang, to lift the kickboxing championship of the division in 2019. While 2020 saw him defeat Rocky Ogden to claim the division’s inaugural Muay Thai title.

However, he surrendered his Strawweight Muay Thai title to Prajanchai PK. Saenchai just after a single title defense and declared his retirement the following year. Sam-A only had a couple of professional bouts since then, where he came out as the victor. It might be his wins that made him rethink trying his fate in ONE for the last time.

With a plethora of options before the Thai, it is really hard to determine the opponent for his returning bout in ONE. Furthermore, the discipline in which he would be competing is also up for speculation currently. However, if the Thai goes for a Muay Thai showdown on his return, then he might be matched up against his former rival, Joseph Lasiri. Whereas, his most likely opponent if he chooses kickboxing would be the ONE strawweight kickboxing king Jon Di Bella.
