Will Haggerty's thirst for blood against Superlek make this the most brutal fight of the year?

The highly anticipated clash between Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek Kiatmoo9 is gathering momentum as the weeks turn into days before it happens. Two of the best fighters in the promotion will look to put on a show for the fans in U.S. primetime on Friday, September 6, inside Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. Haggerty will be defending his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title at the main event of ONE 168: Denver against the same opponent who has beaten him in the past. ‘The General’ recently, in an interview with Si.com, shared his honest opinion about fighting in the USA.

He said, “I’m excited to fight in America and show my skills. I’ve always wanted to fight in front of the US fight fans–they’re smart and passionate. This is going to be an exciting fight, and fans are going to enjoy my style. It’s going to be an all-out war.” Haggerty then shifted his focus toward his opponent and gave a preview of what the fans can expect in their clash. The two-sport champion said, “I’m expecting the worst–and a lot of blood And a lot of elbows. I can’t wait.” Let us take a closer look at his preparations for his fight against Superlek.

Jonathan Haggerty knows that he will be up against one of the best fighters in the sport. As a result, the 27-year-old is pushing himself in his training camp. The last time when the pair met in 2018, Haggerty was nowhere close to his best. Six years down the line, ‘The General’ has not only evolved as a fighter but has also transformed himself physically. Haggerty is fairly active on social media and constantly uploads videos of him training for his next fight. He also uploads videos on his YouTube channel on his ‘Road to Superlek’ series. 

Haggerty is currently training in Koh Samui, Thailand and recently released episode 2 of his series. The 27-year-old has always been known for his work ethic and also for his ability to handle pressure. His training camp currently involves a lot of sparring, along with some brutal hill sprints which will help him in the fight. Talking about his diet, Haggerty has made changes in his diet as well and is eating mostly clean food in his preparation. He also gave an insight into his mentality during the video and said, “Going to have a bulletproof mindset all the time. Nobody can beat you. You’ll be fine.” 

Haggerty has always challenged himself as a fighter and has never shied away from taking risks. While the 27-year-old is preparing to defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai title, he has already found himself a new challenge. Haggerty is now eyeing a title in MMA.

Jonathan Haggerty is waiting to get his hands on the MMA title 

After showing his dominance in striking arts, Haggerty now wants to add one more sport to his resume. This time he has his eyes set on the MMA title and is not afraid to face Fabricio Andrade. Haggerty defeated Andrade to win the vacant kickboxing belt at ONE Fight Night 17 last November. However, he is not yet done with the Brazilian and wants to challenge him for the MMA title next.

While speaking to Si.com, Haggerty gave a glimpse of his plans after his next fight. The 27-year-old wants to get into a MMA fight next and said, “I’ve always said that when ONE Championship offers me a contract for an MMA fight, I’ll sign it, Once this fight is finished, I can’t wait to have an MMA fight.”

Seeing ‘The General’ in action in MMA will be nothing short of a blockbuster. He already holds belts in two different sports and is now eyeing a third one. However, he will first have to defend his Muay Thai title against one of the best in the world on September 6. Superlek is currently unbeaten in his last 10 fights and is eyeing a second belt next. Haggerty, on the other hand, is desperate to avenge his previous loss and prove to the world that his previous loss was just a fluke.
