Though he sits comfortably atop two lightweight striking divisions in ONE Championship, Regian Eersel doesn’t take any challenge lightly.

On Friday, April 5, “The Immortal” will step into his latest defense of the ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Championship against unbeaten star Alexis “Barboza” Nicolas in the main event of ONE Fight Night 21 inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Nonetheless, Eersel is not willing to take any chances against his next opponent.

Eersel has reigned supreme through 10 fights in the world’s largest martial arts organization, and his dominant run of form has seen him pick up the lightweight kickboxing and Muay Thai crowns. Formidable foes have challenged him, and all have fallen to his lethal skill set.

But the Surinamese superstar isn’t taking anything for granted and is preparing for his upcoming opponent as seriously as all the others. “I look at everybody they put in front of me as the most dangerous guy because the one in front of me is the one who is trying to beat me,” Eersel told ONE in an interview.

He further added, “My opponent is going to do everything in his power to get the win and to get the belt. Nobody is an easy fight. Everybody is dangerous.” Nicolas is 23-0 in his professional career, and he scored an impressive win in his promotional bow against Russia’s Magomed Magomedov at ONE Friday Fights 47 this past January.

Eersel anticipates a thrilling showdown with ‘Barboza’

Eersel was in the crowd that night and saw firsthand the kind of fighter he’ll be facing on April 5. With what he surmised, the lightweight kickboxing king is excited to throw down with “Barboza,” and he thinks they’ll put on a good show for the fans.

“I was watching live when he had his first fight for ONE. He’s a smart fighter, good with his kicks, and he throws good combinations. It’s going to be a good fight for me, and I’m going to put my name to the test again. It’s also good for him that he gets to fight for the belt in his second fight in ONE,” he said.

He further added “I think we are both going to score a lot of points and throw lots of combinations. And I hope I’m going to catch him. But in my mind, I’m preparing for five rounds of war.” ONE Fight Night 21 will be broadcast live and free on Prime Video for fans across North America with an active subscription.
