Elite submission grappler Mikey Musumeci is writing his own rules on dieting.
At ONE on Prime Video 2, the man known as “Darth Rigatoni” will take on longtime rival Cleber Sousa for the first-ever ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Championship.

When Musumeci steps into the ONE Circle and tries to make history this Friday, September 30, he won’t be fueled by lean protein, green vegetables, and brown rice. Instead, the five-time IBJJF World Champion will be running on strictly his favorite foods: pasta and pizza.
That’s right – Musumeci’s diet consists entirely of those two classic Italian offerings. Perhaps even more impressively, he eats only one enormous meal a day after hours of BJJ training.
“The first thing I do when I wake up, I train, and then I drink electrolytes and caffeine. So like half a gallon of water or just electrolytes and caffeine, which is very filling because it’s a lot of liquid, right? And then I’ll just drink another caffeine a little later. I’ll train again. And then it’s already nighttime, and you’re ready to eat,” he explained.
“So then the day goes really fast, and you’re not hungry all day, and then you eat a huge meal at night. And then you wake up in the morning already full. So it’s actually not hard to do if you do it like that, I think.”
Every day is a cheat day for Mikey Musumeci
As crazy as it sounds, Musumeci has performed exceptionally well on this carb-heavy approach. For instance, in his promotional debut at ONE 156 this past April, the black belt submitted Japanese MMA and grappling legend Masakazu Imanari in a dazzling display of BJJ technique.

In the past, “Darth Rigatoni” had tried some of the more traditional athlete-focused diets. In those days, pasta and pizza were forbidden and viewed as “cheat” meals.
But now, there’s basically no such thing as “cheating,” as the BJJ sensation eats only the food he craves the most.
“It used to be for me – I would diet for like two weeks, eating nothing. And then I’d have a cheat day of getting to eat pizza or pasta. But then every day became a cheat day for me.”

This Friday, that diet could fuel him to the record books if he beats Sousa and claims the inaugural ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title.
