Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson survived the first round against the ferocious Muay Thai striker Rodtang Jitmuangnon. Meanwhile, showcasing why he is considered one of the GOATs of MMA when he took full advantage of the MMA round to submit the Muay Thai World Champion.

The special rule bout showcased Johnson’s striking prowess as he clipped the Thai fighter after a tough first minute.

When asked if the Muay Thai round had him in trouble, Johnson gave his honest opinion; He said, “Yeah, I mean I got rocked a couple of times, but I’ve been rocked before right. I think him and Dodson hit me the hardest.”

It’s interesting to note that Dodson had dropped Johnson multiple times in their first bout. Even though ‘Mighty Mouse‘ won the fight, he still rates Dodson’s shots as the hardest he’s ever been hit in a fight. But now Rodtang has joined the list.

Earlier in the fight, Rodtang looked to take full advantage of his favorable round and pressed the MMA fighter to the ONE Circle. It appeared he had Johnson hurt in the starting setup, however later, the ever-experienced, Johnson recovered quickly and moved away from most of the shots.

Also, Johnson had to make an early adjustment, opposing his MMA game plan. He tried to clinch and almost had a body lock when Rodtang put forward pressure. However, Johnson, understanding the Muay Thai rule set, was quick to let go of it.

After the early adversary, Johnson used his movements and angles to avoid Rodtang’s hard-hitting strikes. Also, he landed some good shots of his own.

Demetrious Johnson was happy to show aggression in the second round.

Rodtang, who usually charges down his opponents, taking the backstep in the second round, did not surprise the AMC Pankration fighter. Though the threat of the takedown could be a reason for Rodtang’s back-peddling, Johnson offered Rodtang was trying to lure him into big shots.

That said, Johnson knew he had only three minutes before the tide would change again. Thus, he pushed the pace and looked for a quick finish.

“The biggest thing I’m happy about, I take away from this fight is – I have three minutes and when I got his back, I was very aggressive, and typically in my fights, I’m not as aggressive. I don’t really go for the kill. I’m just chilling, relaxing, that I have five minutes, 15 minutes. This one was like three minutes and you gotta get it done, or you’re gonna go to another round of Muay Thai… He has a chance to knock you out.”
