Ben Tynan produced a show-stopping performance in his ONE Championship debut, and he wants to do it again in his sophomore outing this weekend.

At ONE Fight Night 21: Eersel vs. Nicolas on Friday, April 5, “Vanilla Thunder” will face Australia’s Duke Didier in a heavyweight MMA match inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Tynan arrived to much fanfare at ONE Fight Night 16 last November, given that he held an undefeated professional slate. He was tasked with taking out divisional contender Kang Ji Won that evening, and the Canadian grappler proved he belonged among the best by scoring a huge submission win in the third round.

Ben Tynan sent out a clear-cut message for his opponents

In a recent interview with ONE, Tynan shared that his win against Kang was a good boost of confidence, and it sent a clear message to the rest of his weight bracket.

“I felt like it was a perfect display of the kind of [fighter that I am]. Because at the end of the day, we MMA fighters practice all types of martial arts, and I love striking,” he said.

“I love getting knockouts, but let’s be honest, at the end of the day, I’m a dangerous, dangerous wrestler and I felt like that was a good statement to put in front of everyone else because Kang Ji Won is a tough dude and he’s got great fights, knockouts. His resume is huge, so to go in there and kind of show these guys like ‘No, there’s a new dog in town.’ It felt good.”

While Tynan sees positives in his opponent’s game, he is confident that he’ll take a decisive win when they step into action this weekend.

“He seems like he’s a decent grappler. It seems like he’s got maybe something of a clinch, and I’ll give him that, looks decent enough. But yeah, besides that, I don’t know. I don’t want to be too cocky, but I think I could – I’m going to take this guy’s head off,” he said.

“I say first-round finish, so I plan on taking his head off his shoulders. I want some big strikes. He doesn’t really like to strike too much. You don’t see much striking from him.”
