Can Aung La N Sang's return to ONE Championship reignite his career and silence his critics?

Former two-division MMA world champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang is scheduled to return at ONE 168: Denver. The event is set to take place on September 6th at Ball Arena in Denver, marking ONE Championship’s second event in the United States. Aung La will face Turkish wrestler Shamil Erdogan in a middleweight MMA fight.

In a recent social media post on the occasion of the 4th of July, (American Independence Day), “The Burmese Python” expressed his excitement about his upcoming return to America. He was also part of last year’s inaugural ONE Champions event, ONE Fight Night 10.

Throughout his long and successful career, 39-year-old Aung La N Sang has reigned supreme, capturing both the light heavyweight and middleweight MMA titles in ONE Championship. However, he recently hit a rough patch, going 1-3 in four fights and losing both his titles. Despite these setbacks, ‘The Burmese Python’ has bounced back with three consecutive wins. Notably, he returned to the United States in May 2023 to defeat Fan Rong via submission.

Now, with a new contract in place, Aung La took to Instagram Stories to express his excitement for his upcoming return. Posting a story with the caption “Back with Vengeance,” he signaled his readiness to reclaim his status in the MMA world. It remains to be seen if he can maintain his winning streak in America.

However, this card is shaping up to be another blockbuster event, with at least three World Titles being put on the line, including the return of Stamp Fairtex against ONE women’s strawweight MMA Queen Xiong Jin Nan.
