The 17-year-old has put together an impressive slate in ONE so far, with four finishes and five wins in his six outings. He hit a bit of a snag last time out, suffering his first promotional loss courtesy of Vietnamese veteran Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat at ONE 167 in June, but his confidence hasn’t been shaken one bit.

With ONE Championship returning to North America this year, the Malaysian-American sensation hoped to get the opportunity to compete at one of the events, and he shared what it meant to get the call in a recent interview with ONE.

“Man, to be honest, I was lost for words. It’s a moment that I’ve wanted ever since I saw the card. Plus, my family – my grandparents, my cousins, my aunts – are all just in New Mexico,” said Johan Ghazali.

Cruz went undefeated in 17 fights before his move to ONE Championship. And though he has had to absorb back-to-back losses so far in the world’s largest martial arts organization, he will be far from a pushover.

A win for Ghazali will put him back on track toward becoming the next superstar in ONE, and victory for “Tuzo” will make an instant statement, given the hype of his teenage opponent. With that in mind, fans should expect fireworks from this striking pair when they collide in Denver next week.
