Kim Jae Woong is ready to get back into the World Title hunt in ONE Championship, and he believes a win in his upcoming fight could do wonders for that quest. “The Fighting God” will mix it up with former ONE Bantamweight World Champion John Lineker at ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian, which is set to go down inside the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, August 4.

Kim rose through the featherweight ranks by winning three of his four fights in ONE, including a first-round knockout over former two-division titleholder Martin Nguyen. His next fight saw his impressive run end, however, as he fell to a knockout loss of his own against future divisional king Tang Kai.

Kim Jae Woong wants to have a favorable outcome in a bout that can change his future

The South Korean star’s fall from grace continued in his next outing, which saw him succumbing to a first-round defeat at the hands of promotional newcomer Shamil Gasanov. “The Fighting God” went back to the drawing board in the hopes of finding form, leading him to try his luck at bantamweight, and in his first fight in the stacked division, he made a statement by taking out former World Champion Kevin Belingon.

That was last November, and going the distance against Shoko Sato in a catchweight contest in January, has given Kim the confidence he needs to look at his fight with Lineker on August 4 as a big chance to right the ship instead of an intimidating challenge against a proven commodity.

“I’m so excited about it,” he told ONE. “John Lineker is a fighter who I have always admired. I was thrilled with the opportunity to face such a strong fighter. I see this upcoming fight as a massive opportunity for me. I believe it will be a match to showcase my growth and progress. I am preparing knowing it is a significant match, and that it will change my future.”

John Lineker beat every fighter put in front of him upon his arrival in The Home of Martial Arts in 2019. Not even longtime king Bibiano Fernandes could put a stop to his dominance when “Hands of Stone” came to challenge him for the World Title in early 2022.

Fabricio Andrade shattered the MMA veteran’s aura of invincibility in their two meetings last year, however, first beating him down before an illegal blow caused a no-contest ruling, then forcing him to retire on his stool in their heated rematch, so Lineker will be looking to reclaim some shine in his bout with Kim.

Kim Jae Woong’s experience of previous fights with skilled opponents will be a help for him

His opponent’s slate may be fearsome, but “The Fighting God” has faced some marquee names before, and he believes that experience will help him overcome the former divisional king on August 4.

“I still vividly remember feeling tense and nervous during my matches with Nguyen and Belingon. Having gone through those emotions before, I think I can overcome them well this time around,” Kim said.
