Sage Northcutt understands what it takes to excel in one martial art and then use those skills to start over in a new discipline.
The multiple-time Karate World Champion made his professional debut in mixed martial arts in 2014, and he is currently working his way up to an opportunity to compete for gold in ONE Championship.
Sage Northcutt Shares His Admiration For Stamp Fairtex
In joining the world’s largest martial arts organization, “Super” got to know some of the best fighters on the planet today, and he learned to admire what they have done and are doing in their careers. One such athlete is Stamp Fairtex, who is aiming to make history by becoming the promotion’s first three-sport World Champion at ONE Fight Night 14 on Friday, September 29.
The top-ranked atomweight MMA contender is set to face the #2-ranked Ham Seo Hee for the division’s interim crown in the main event of the star-studded spectacle inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Stamp has previously held the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Titles, and she has made waves in the MMA ranks over the last few years – even challenging divisional queen Angela Lee once before.
In an interview with ONE, Northcutt expressed his admiration for Stamp and credited her for the work she has put in to reach the level that she is at today. “Stamp Fairtex is already a super bright star. I mean, she’s a two-sport World Champion. So if she gets to be a three-sport World Champion – that’s nuts,” the American star said. “To be able to win World Titles in three different sports is pretty phenomenal. I’ve only heard of people ever winning a World Title in one sport, so that definitely takes a different kind of dedication to be able to do that.”
Stamp Fairtex is already a mega star and a fan favorite
Apart from her in-ring achievements, Stamp has also captured the hearts of fans with her bright personality and entertaining pre-fight dances. In her United States debut at ONE Fight Night 10 earlier this year, Northcutt was able to witness Stamp on and off camera as he was competing on the same card. This helped him gain an appreciation for why fans have such an affinity with her.
“I got to meet Stamp at my fight on May 5. Stamp is a character. She’s hilarious. We were waiting for a press conference, and she’s pulling pranks on me in line. She’s definitely a prankster, super funny. She’s got a personality, that’s for sure,” he said. “I was [in the arena] for her fight and got to see the crowd just go berserk. They were so excited with her walkout. Her charisma and her dancing. And also on top of that, her performance and how incredibly sharp she is.”
