There is no bigger prize on offer at Friday’s event than in the main event matchup, which features bantamweight kings Jonathan Haggerty and Fabricio Andrade battling it out for the division’s vacant kickboxing gold. The intriguing brawl will mark the first time two reigning World Champions compete for a prize in a sport they haven’t competed in during their promotional tenures. But make no mistake, both fighters are more than capable of claiming the coveted crown.
MMA titleholder Andrade amassed 40 wins in kickboxing and Muay Thai before he switched to the all-encompassing sport upon moving to ONE. Meanwhile, Muay Thai champ Haggerty has proven time and again that he’s one of the best strikers in the world, and he’ll have no problem tweaking his skill set in order to claim a second throne. Debate raged as to who will leave Lumpinee as the promotion’s newest two-sport king, and the answer will emerge in fiery fashion on Friday night.
Will Tye Ruotolo be crowned World Champion or suffer his first defeat?
Tye Ruotolo has put together a dominant four-fight winning streak since joining ONE last year, and he has become one of the faces of submission grappling in the promotion. Winning a World Title appears to be his destiny, but he’ll have to be on top form to do so in his upcoming fight.
The American phenom will welcome Magomed Abdulkadirov to the world’s largest martial arts organization at ONE Fight Night 16, with the two set to compete for the inaugural ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Title in the co-main event.
The Russian grappler is a multisport athlete who holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but he has competed in sambo, wrestling, and MMA. After multiple successful campaigns in prestigious ADCC tournaments, he is looking to claim the biggest prize of his career and become the first to put a dent in Ruotolo’s perfect run in ONE. This battle is sure to go down to the wire, and it will either be Ruotolo’s will to fulfill his fate or Abdulkadirov’s drive to upset the order that’s going to win out in the end.
Can A New World Title Challenger Emerge?
There is little doubt that a fighter’s goal is to reach the top of their sport, and there’s a swathe of athletes poised to take a huge step in their respective quests when they step into action on Friday night. Chinese star Meng Bo is riding a two-fight winning streak in ONE, and a win against former World Title challenger Ayaka Miura could boost her to become the next challenger to Xiong Jing Nan’s ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Title.

Meanwhile, both Zhang Peimian and Rui Botelho will hope to emerge as the clear-cut favorite to take the next crack at ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan Di Bella when they collide.
Also competing at ONE Fight Night 16 is Anna “Supergirl” Jaroonsak, who believes she is one win away from calling out Janet Todd for the ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Title. She’ll be hoping to score that victory when she takes on hungry striker Cristina Morales on Friday. Should these stars emerge victorious, fans could very well see three new World Title challengers stepping into the light when ONE Fight Night 16 comes to a close.
