Joe Rogan thinks Shavkat Rakhmonov could be the next big thing. And a lot of fans agree completely. The podcaster recently sat down with the reigning bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and his coach, Tim Welch. The trio discussed a bunch of things ranging from the way guests are invited to the podcast to how O’Malley felt about being the champ.

While they were speaking about great fighters, O’Malley brought up the idea of Rakhmonov. It was then that Rogan had to acknowledge the fighter’s skills. Many fans have touted ‘Nomad’ to be better than Khamzat Chimaev, the current number 4 ranked fighter in the welterweight division. Why does Rogan feel this way?

Joe Rogan has several big reasons to consider ‘Nomad’ a real threat in the division. To start with, the fighter has never lost a fight. Currently, his record sets at a strikingly spotless 17-0. O’Malley mentioned how watching him in the year’s last pay-per-view is going to be interesting. This is when Rogan showered the fighter with praise.

“Shavkat can grapple too. Shavkat’s a lot. That motherfu*ker can do everything,” said Rogan. “He’s interesting, man.” Khamzat’s grappling and wrestling abilities aren’t questionable at all. He’s a great fighter, to begin with. While fans thought he and Khamzat would be a great match, ‘Suga’ is still paying attention to his bout against Stephen Thompson. He mentioned how he saw Rakhmonov’s documentary and learned a lot about him.

“I watched the documentary on him recently, like his come up from when he turned pro,” said the champ. “Like the second he turned pro, he was fighting like good, good guys. First prize, second, third. He didn’t have any easy fights. He was fighting fu*king killers.”

The documentary detailed the way Rakhmonov came from a community of nomads and rose to fame in the UFC. There have been no fighters who have been able to come close to defeating the fighter so far. So, who is it going to be? There have been no confirmations of a future fight with Khamzat Chimaev, so that dream remains obscure for the time being. The fans will see Rakhmonov perform at UFC 296 though.

Shavkat Rakhmonov, who is currently sitting at #6, will go up against #7, Stephen Thompson. Thompson’s last fight against the Brazilian ninja Michael Pereira was canceled. That fight was supposed to go down at UFC 291 on the 30th of July in 2023. Now, he will be fighting in the final pay-per-view of the year. Fans wonder if Rakhmonov will be a more serious threat to Thompson or if it’ll be the other way around.

The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas can fill up the place with up to 20,000 people. That is a lot of fans and a lot of entertainment, especially when the main fight card is something as exciting as Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington. But Rakhmonov locking horns with Thompson will still be a fight to remember. ‘Nomad’ previously fought against Geoff Neal and made him submit in the third round. This helped him maintain his record of no losses in his career.
