Ibrahimovic always does something unimaginable. There are several examples of his outspoken nature. Who can forget the way he criticized LeBron James for talking about politics? Recently, he claimed that Pep Guardiola’s ego might hold Haaland back. Although, this was not the first instance of talking about Guardiola. Zlatan Ibrahimovic once ripped into former Manchester United Legends
Zlatan came to Manchester United in the 2016-17 season on a one-year deal. Manchester was struggling to reach the heights of SAF’s era after his retirement. Finishing in the top 4 remained their prime target every season after 2013. It was during this period, many former Manchester United players turned pundits kept criticizing the club for not playing the Manchester United way.
The criticism of the club and the players didn’t go down well with Ibrahimovic, and he hit back when asked about the Class of 92 players and their criticism.
Ibrahimovic said, “They’re [Class of 92] not there anymore. They’re on TV and complaining all the time because they’re not active in the club. If you want to work for the club, go search for work in the club. So you cannot be on TV and all this complaining and criticizing. Yeah, you had your time. Okay, we know it. You wanna be seen? Yes. Somebody was not talking when he was active. Suddenly he’s not active and he’s talking a lot.”
Manchester United are yet to win the Premier League after SAF left in 2013. Managers came and went but United failed to win any trophies of major significance. The last time the ‘Red Devils’ lifted a major trophy was in the 2016-17 season with Jose Mourinho winning the UEFA Europa League.
Ibrahimovic’s stint at Manchester United
Ibrahimovic joined Manchester United on a free transfer in 2016-17 on a season-long deal. The first season under Mourinho went as expected. Ibrahimovic finished as a top scorer for Manchester United in the league (17) as well as in all competitions (28). He finished as the top scorer despite being sidelined with a ligament injury in the last few months of the 2016-17 season.
