Know the format and structure
One of the highly anticipated wrestling championships of 2025, the US Open, is around the corner, and every wrestling fan must be excited to know all the details about the same. Well, there will be five events: U15, U17, U20, Girls HS Showcase, and Masters Nationals. The event will bring athletes together from multiple age groups, weights, and skill divisions to ensure that wrestlers of all backgrounds get a chance to prove themselves. But how will the age be considered?
Well, for senior nationals, those who were born in 2007 or earlier are eligible, U20 Nationals for athletes born between 2005 and 2008, and U17 World Team Trials covering 2008 to 2010. Younger wrestlers can compete in the U15 Nationals (2010-2012) and UWW Futures Nationals (2013-2015). There’s also a dedicated Girls High School National Recruiting Showcase, open to those born on or after September 1, 2005, who are currently in grades 9 through 12.
There are so many entries from all the different categories, and as Justin Basch posted on X, “Another 100 or so entries for U20/Juniors at the Open officially in, and I know more are to come, but here’s the ~400 in so far.” Stakes are really high for the US Open 2025.

When it comes to wrestling styles, athletes will have the chance to compete in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. The schedule of the US Open 2025 is also important in order not to miss any important event or any category. The schedule is divided into parts and particular timings are given for every particular event. For instance: credentials, pick-up timings, weigh-ins & medical check-ups, and availability of the athletic mats.

Registration, Rules, and Key Regulations
Before the event, all personalized credentials will be printed. To obtain their tournament credentials, athletes must register and have a profile picture linked to their USA Wrestling Membership profile by the deadline of April 4 at 3 p.m. MTN. Please upload your photo as soon as you can if you haven’t already. But there are some requirements that are needed, like nationality and passport requirements: Every athlete who belongs to the US has US citizenship and has completed USA sporting nationality should do so before the athlete’s World Team and Pan Am Games Tryout event.
If you’re stepping onto the mats at the 2025 U.S. Open Wrestling Championships, there are a few key things you need to know—starting with weigh-ins. For divisions like Senior, U17, U20, and U23, the tournament runs on a two-day weigh-in system. That means you’ll have to hit the scales on the morning of your first competition day to confirm you’re within your weight class. But it doesn’t stop there—if you keep winning and advance, you’ll need to weigh in again the next morning to prove you’re still on track. It’s all about keeping things fair and ensuring everyone stays in their proper division throughout the tournament. So, plan ahead, stay disciplined, and be ready to make weight when it counts!

As for the matches themselves, all bouts will follow the official rules set by United World Wrestling (UWW) and USA Wrestling (USAW). These regulations ensure consistency, fairness, and a level playing field for all competitors. Seeding is another important factor to consider. If you’re aiming for a seeded position, you’ll need to register by Sunday, April 20. Late registrations will still be accepted up until the event, but they come with higher fees and can impact your seeding placement. Some athletes wait until the last minute to decide, which can shake up the competition and make things even more unpredictable.
With high-stakes matchups and elite wrestlers battling for top honors, the 2025 U.S. Open Wrestling Championships are set to deliver intense action. Whether you’re stepping onto the mat or watching from the stands, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
