The wrestling world is in total uproar. In a shocking turn of events, Bo Bassett finally decided on his college. But it is not David Taylor’s OSU, as the wrestling sensation latched onto his goal of being part of the Iowa Hawkeyes. However, David Taylor’s men were not left empty-handed as another prospect decided to make the Cowboys his home coming up. But who is this number two prospect who David snagged?
This guy is none other than Jax Forrest, the junior from Bishop McCort. And this decision can shape up the NCAA massively. FloWrestling has posted the announcement of this young wrestler, Jax Forrest. The caption reads, “Hear Jax Forrest’s thoughts on his commitment to Oklahoma State. The #2 ranked recruit is ready to make an impact for the Cowboys.” But what does Forrest have to say?
During the interview, Jax Forrest was asked about his future in wrestling and where he sees himself. And to that, Forrest quickly responded, while wearing a red cap in between, and showed his t-shirt. He said, “Yeah, through all of the ups and the downs and with my parents, I can proudly say that I’m going to be going to Oklahoma State with Coach Taylor, Coach Gilman, Jimmy Caldwell, and all those guys.”

Forrest further added, “And you know, I’m super thankful for everything they’ve done for me and for my coaches, my parents, and all my teammates. And you know, I’m glad, and I don’t have any regrets. And I won’t have any regrets about going to Oklahoma State.” It seems Jax is quite confident in his uptake. And with him ranked #2 nationwide, it’s no surprise for the 132-pounder. Jax already has 118 career victories and only 3 losses; he has been a force to be reckoned with. In fact, he is already 35-0 in the current season.
If that wasn’t enough, he has also won the PIAA Class 2A title at 127 pounds. And finished 53-2 as a junior at Bishop McCort last year. Jax Forrest, who placed second at the 2022 U17 World Championships and fourth at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 57 kg freestyle, is likewise a formidable opponent on the international scene. But on the other hand, David Taylor and the Cowboys might not be too happy with what transpired earlier with Bassett.

Bo Bassett reveals the real reason behind his decision
Despite hinting for months that he might go to OSU, Bassett made his switch to Iowa. In a stunning shift, Bo, once a prized recruit for David Taylor’s program, decided to follow in Spencer Lee’s footsteps, committing to the Hawkeyes. But what might have led him to make this decision? After all, for the longest time, it seemed like Taylor could bring him to OSU. Right? But if you have been following him for some time, you might know that he shares a special reverence for Spencer Lee.

Did Jax Forrest make the right call choosing Oklahoma State over other wrestling powerhouses?

Speaking with ‘Saturday Night Lights,’ Basett said, “I’ve always wanted to be an Iowa Hawkeye, and I think that that’s, you know, there’s nothing right there. I mean, that’s something I didn’t forget since I was six years old.” He further expressed her feelings: “I started wrestling; Iowa was always my favorite team.” Wondering why Iowa has been his favorite?
Bassett got all his recognition and accolades with Bishop McCort High School And Iowa is also very similar to McCourt Room. As Bassett himself said, “And I don’t know why I just love the way they wrestle. They’re very similar to the McCort Room, right?” There might be some truth to this statement. And Bo, who has always trained under his father and head coach, Bill Bassett, will finally have someone else to call his mentor.

With a record of 111-0, the undisputed champion of high school wrestling stands proud with his father. But while under his father, Bassett has already claimed the 2021 U17 World Championship. He followed this up with the 2024 U20 Bronze as well. It will be interesting to see what he does under Iowa’s Tom Brands. As for Jax, while he has quite a resume himself, he still can’t lay claim to the undefeated tag of Bassett.
But with this, two of the hottest prospects in the high school wrestling scene have found their home for the next four years. But while both of them are in different weight categories, it will be pretty fun to see them compete for All-American glory. What do you think?
