Bo Bassett has been the hottest thing to happen to American wrestling since Gable Steveson. With his undefeated record of more than 110 victories as well as the intrigue behind his college selection, the Pennsylvania native has the entire community in clutch. But things have since gotten a little quieter, now that we know he will be going to Iowa. But while the Hawkeyes are sure to welcome the mat sensation with open arms, what does his childhood friend think of this whole situation?

Well, IAwrestle might have a clue to that. The Iowa-based wrestling media house recently shared an Instagram post on the same day Bo announced his move to Iowa. In the post, Bo’s long-time friend and partner in crime, Owen McMullen, could also be seen. It was pretty evident that the young man was happy about his friend’s success.

Taking a trip down memory lane, he said, “We’ve been best friends since 2nd grade, and now we’re going to be teammates through 16th grade.” The freestyle wrestler has cheered the Hawks with the arrival of the 2022 Ironman Champion and believes this is the best thing God could’ve bestowed upon him. He continued, “I couldn’t have asked God for a better blessing in my life. Go Hawks!

Owen himself is a member of the Iowa Hawks wrestling team, being one of their first prospects for the class of 2026 and now that he has his best friend by his side, his morale is bound to go high, especially when that best friend is someone like Bo Bassett.

One could easily look at Owen’s Twitter and realize how excited he was for BO’s move. Maybe he internally knew it all, but what’s not maybe is the fact that the relationship between these two is going to be like the grip of a wrestler during the double-leg takedown. And do not be mistaken that friendship is only one-sided; Bassett equally hypes and loves his friend back.

Bo Bassett is excited about what’s coming next

21st February marks Owen’s birthday and his best friend, Bo, didn’t waste a minute wishing him with the best words boy best friends can. The 2023 Fargo Freestyle National Champion shared a picture on his Instagram story with Owen, hyping up his brother from another mother on his special day. Bo wrote, “Happy Birthday to man, the myth, the legend… Hawkeye O @owen memullen.”

The picture featured Owen in the center, Bo to his left, and one other wrestler from the Hawks wrestling team; all three of them were dressed in Iowa attire. Sharing this picture in the most probable sense means that the Powerade Wrestling Champion is all set to fly for the Hawks, not to forget that he also wrote, “Excited for the next chapter with you, brotha.

But beyond friendship, this move is also a chance for Bassett to grow one step closer to his icon. Bo has always seen Spencer Lee as his role model and the mat sensation even practiced with Spencer as a kid. So it is no surprise that now being part of the same Hawkeyes lockerroom in a few months will be a great pleasure for the youth.

After all, with 118 victories, he exemplified what a wrestler should strive to be with his rigid training regimes. But with him finally exiting the shadow of his father, Bill Bassett, it will be seen how he does in the future. After all, in his 3 years of high school, he already has a U-17 World Championship, which he won in 2021, and a silver medal in U20. But with so many expectations, you need to have some close supporters.

And having a friend from the times when you used to run in the mud to the time you’re making a name in the world, Bassett and Owen are blessed to have each other behind their backs, and now with both of them on the same team, it’s going to be interesting to see what they do in the NCAA. Let us know how beneficial this combo is going to be for the Hawks.
