When it comes to high school wrestling, if there’s one name that will immediately come to mind, then it is that of Bo Bassett. But again, why shouldn’t it? Bassett has been simply peerless in the high school scene for quite a while now. With an undefeated record of 110+ wins and a slew of trophies, he is indeed peerless. But what is the reason for this success? Well, nothing but hard work. In his own words, since the age of 6, Bo has been “always thinking about wrestling.” Now, you might think Bo would be taking it easy, but no. And he made that apparent in his recent confession. So what did he have to say?
Well, apart from working out in the gym, Bassett thinks “there was no place [he would] rather be.” Well, even after becoming a star, Bassett does not seem to have forgotten his motto. Awaiting his debut for Iowa, the teenager is trying his best to make use of his offseason. Without wasting time sitting back, Bassett is back to the grind. In his recently uploaded Instagram story, Bassett could be seen preaching some motivational words. He stressed the importance of relentless practice and hard work.
Bassett stated that success does not come in a single day. Rather, it is an accumulation of the grind that one puts in every day. “Stack the Days! Greatness isn’t built in a day; it’s built day after day, rep after rep. Monday to Tuesday. Tuesday to Wednesday. Each session, each drill, each hard-fought practice stacks on the last,” wrote Bassett. Next up, he also spilled some bitter truth.

Bassett stated that it is a guarantee that every day won’t feel the same. There will be days when things will seem off. The energy might really be low. And that is when one must not stop. “Some days you’ll feel unstoppable. Other days, you’ll be grinding just to get through. But consistency beats intensity when intensity isn’t consistent,” Bassett further continued.

He concluded his story by saying that champions are not a product of shortcuts. Rather, they have to make innumerable sacrifices to attain the unprecedented levels of success that they crave. Thus, with a daily grind, Bo Bassett is aiming to rule the NCAA realm this season. And he is not even trying to hide it! Coming to IOWA, Bassett now wants to be the next big star.

Bo Bassett isn’t just coming to Iowa to wrestle! Rather, he’s coming to build a legacy. The unanimous No. 1 overall recruit in the 2026 class has set his sights on becoming the next Hawkeye icon, following in the footsteps of legends like Spencer Lee and Michael Kemerer. But for Bo, it’s about more than personal success. He wants to help Iowa return to the top of college wrestling.
“Let’s get back to that top spot and let’s keep putting titles together,” Bassett said, making his mission clear. His commitment to the grind is relentless. Before the sun rises, he’s already deep into a morning workout, knowing that while his competition sleeps, he’s getting better. “That one’s fun because it’s an extra workout on the guys that are sleeping,” he said.

He’s already recruiting other top prospects, sending messages like, “Hey, we get you; we can do this,” as he works to build something special in Iowa City. “I do want to eventually, someday, be one of those guys,” Bassett said.
He even added, “That’s a dream, and that’s something we’re chasing every day.” His vision is clear: become an icon, fuel Iowa’s resurgence, and leave a lasting imprint on the program. But how close he gets to that resurgence and that goal is to be seen come next year.
