The prodigy has finally redeemed himself. But wait, didn’t Bo Bassett just lose in the finals of the PIAA finals to Faith Christian? Well, yes while that may be true, the grappler got another chance to end his season on the high. And this chance came in the form of the PIAA State Championships. And guess what? Bassett did it once again showing why is the #1 high school wrestler as he crushed his opponent. But it seems he just can’t relax yet as there is one guy with whom he is now getting compared to. And, no it is not his idol Spencer Lee.
So who was it? Well, as it so happens, it was the coach of the Nittany Lions, Cael Sanderson. Yes you heard that right. But how did this all came to be? Well for that you can blame Flo Wrestling. The wrestling network set the stage with a simple but electrifying tweet. “Bo Bassett vs. Hudson Hohman | 2025 PIAA State Championships,” it highlighted on March 9.
All fans needed to buckle in for what they knew would be another masterclass in dominance. And Bassett didn’t disappoint. On March 6, the 18-year-old phenom stepped onto the mats, knowing exactly what was at stake. Three matches later, he walked off with his second Pennsylvania state title. Securing his finals win with a fall in just 1 minute, 52 seconds to clinch a 15-4 victory over Hudson Hohman. If there was any doubt before, Bassett just silenced it.

The undefeated high schooler now sits at #4 on pound-for-pound by FloWrestling. But that was not the end. Fans of the grappler then went on to draw some comparisons to one of the greatest collegiate wrestlers of all time, Cael Sanderson. With so many big comparisons it seems the future Hawkeye has some big boots to fill once he enters college.
After all just last month the University of Iowa announced in front of over 40,000 viewers about his commiment to the Iowa Hawkeyes. That truly sent fans into a frenzy. But while everyone was already comparing him with former Hawkeye Spencer Lee, now this new fodder to fire has been added in the form of Cael Sanderson. But so much noise one might think just how good was he? Well lets just say it was breathtaking.
Before his showdown with Hohman, Bassett made his way through Faith Christian’s Mason Wagner with an 18-3 tech fall, marking his third consecutive tech fall win of the tournament. His semifinal matchup? More of the same. Brookville’s Cole Householder felt the full force of Bassett’s relentless style, falling 19-4 in yet another tech fall. Bassett isn’t just winning.
He’s putting on a show, and wrestling fans can’t get enough. And the fans are happy for every moment of it.

A star in the making—Fans react to Bo Bassett’s jaw-dropping performance
Bo Bassett isn’t just winning titles. He’s building a legacy. His latest performance at the PIAA State Championships wasn’t just a victory; it was a statement. With another state title and an unblemished high school record, Bassett has once again left fans in awe. Sanderson’s 159-0 record at Iowa State is the gold standard of college wrestling, an accomplishment that remains untouched. He even followed that up with an Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Athens Games. Citing that, one fan pointed out why Sanderson will always hold the edge in wrestling history. “Cael had an undefeated 2004 season and then won the Olympic gold. So based on highest talent/skill and not record/titles, I still think Cael takes the cake.” The conversation surrounding Bassett’s potential is thrilling.
And it’s not just about the victories. It’s about his resilience. “Bassett has to be one of the most dominant rookies heading into college we have seen in a while,” one fan noted, while another added, “What a performance to win, dominance on another level.” Bassett’s Bishop McCort team lost to Faith Christian Academy (FCA), the No. 1 high school program in the high school wrestling championship.
