Gable Steveson is the big thing that has come back to the Big Ten. Returning to collegiate gymnastics after a three-year break, the former WWE wrestler decided to risk his perfect 59-0 in dual competition and the 44-0 mark against Big Ten opponents as he stepped onto the mat in Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Illinois, from March 8–9, 2025. The streak did survive when the man walked out of the semifinals and drew parallels from the past.
FloWrestling took to Instagram on the 8th of March, posting a video montage of the Minnesota star with his interview voiceover in the background. When asked about the difference between the 2023 version of Gable Steveson and the one that he has now, he said, “Oh, I feel like I’m a step ahead. I’m finally back to where I was, you know, when I started the season.” The man is not just where he wants, he is better than what he was.
He continued, “I was about 280, now I’m saying about 270 I can move quicker. My feet are back to where they need to be.” The wrestler might have put on a few extra pounds, but he does not have a problem with it, and he is getting quicker and also breathing better, citing, “My lungs are where they need to be. My arms are too.”

Gable Steveson is ready for Greg
The Olympic gold medalist is not expecting something easy from the Penn State wrestler as the two head into the finals of the 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships in the 285-pound bracket; Steveson said, “It’s going to be a tough one. I’m ready to brawl for 7 minutes. You know, I’ve wrestled Gary for a long time.” The two first wrestled in 2018, when the two of them were still in high school, where the 2021-22 Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year was won by 3-2.

Ironically, the two powerhouses have also collided in two finals before, those being the finals of the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Championships, where the Minnesota wrestler won. So you can conclude that the two know how they wrestle. As Steveson said, “I know what he does. (0:08) I know the standard that I have to bring, and I’ll bring it tomorrow.” Feels like the NCAA champion is bringing his A game to the finals.
Greg is also in great form; he faced Michigan’s Joshua Heindselman and won by fall, and now he heads for revenge in the finals. So, is Greg going to win in the finals? Or is Gable’s streak going up to 47-0?
