Grant Fisher has been unstoppable, rewriting the record books with back-to-back world records in just one week. But while his blistering pace has stunned the track world, something else has sparked an unexpected debate. A post on social media, Nike shoes in hand, and a cryptic caption have left fans questioning what’s happening behind the scenes. As Fisher continues to shatter records, the focus isn’t just on his performances but also on the gear fueling his historic runs.

Grant Fisher ran on the track at breakneck speed. The 27-year-old world record holder finished the 3000 m race in 7:22.91 at Millrose Games on Feb 9. But he didn’t stop there and based another win, and that too a world record again. Yep! Again a few days later, he smashed the 5000 m record at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Fisher clocked 12:44.09 by lowering the mark of Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele in 2024 (12:49.60). But it seems Nike’s shoes couldn’t handle his speed.

The athlete sarcastically highlighted Nike’s shoe durability issues. A post on X is going viral in which Grant Fisher can be seen holding Nike shoes in hand. And the caption says it all. It reads, “Another pair, gone. And they didn’t even last one week. @Nike  … At this rate, you’re going to have to send them in bulk. This train is rolling.” It is not acceptable from a brand like Nike, which is known for the durability of their shoes.

In recent years, Nike has developed high-performance racing shoes incorporating innovative features such as carbon fiber plates and advanced foam compositions. However, the recent claim by Olympian Grant Fisher says something else. His shoes were torn down in just one week, and at such a high price, it is not acceptable. That’s not a brand like Nike that should work, especially for the athletes; the shoes are the most valuable asset. And they somewhere rely on the shoes for the speed.

With two world records, one week, and a shoe controversy, Nike’s durability is in question. Fisher has called out Nike for the fragile shoes that barely lasted. The shoe model and the price can be jaw-dropping for you. The original price of that particular shoe is $262.29. The long-distance running shoes are from the Spikes category, and the model name is Spikes Nike Dragonfly 2 Elite Proto. As discussions unfold, fans and experts are left wondering—can Nike keep up with the pace of its own champions?

According to CNN Sports, the new record holder expressed his feelings: “I didn’t know how my legs would feel after the last week.” Indeed, after a long-distance race of 3000 m, anyone would be tired and need rest. But as they say, duty calls; an athlete can’t step back when such a big opportunity is standing right in front of you. But champions motivated themselves to crash all the boundaries to show up.

American long-distance runner candidly told how his legs felt afterward. “They honestly felt pretty bad for a few days after.” And that made him nervous, but the fatigue didn’t let him set back, and the result is known by everyone. Another crown of world record for 5000 m is his now. Fisher’s dominance on the track isn’t just a recent phenomenon.

He is building his list record for years. Back at JD’s Invitational in 2013, he stormed through the 3200 meters in 8:55.75 and recorded his personal best. And when he lined up at the Brooks PR Invitational, he took it up a notch, clocking an 8:51.28 in the two-mile run to secure another big victory. What’s the next challenge for Grant Fisher?

After clinching record-breaking wins, Fisher is all set to compete in this year’s highly anticipated event. An event by Michael Johnson—Grand Slam Track season, where he will be competing again in the 3000m and 5000m at each of the four Slams. Hopefully, we will be able to see his magic on the GST as well.
