Eight months ago, a packed Stade de France watched as Hunter Woodhall stormed to his maiden Paralympic gold. The Paralympian had closed his 2024 season right after that French trip. And the men’s 400m T62 event has missed him ever since. But it’s April now, and most athletes have already kicked off the new year on track. Yet, there have been no signs of Hunter or his wife, Tara Davis-Woodhall. However, the wait is about to end soon. They are no longer gatekeeping their season debut dates. And an Olympic gold medalist can’t keep calm!
Yes, the Woodhalls are coming back to ride on that high now. Well, the Paris Olympics and Paralympics had proved to be rather successful for the couple. Tara Davis-Woodhall jumped to a soaring 7.10 metres and took the crown of the Olympic champion. Whereas Hunter’s debut gold was joined by bronze in the Universal relay open category. Thanks to these and, well, their emotional moment from the Paris Olympics that went viral, they have enjoyed 8 months of superstardom. But guess it’s finally time to return to back to the pavilion.
April 12, Hunter Woodhall added a post on his Instagram, which featured a carousel of his images from the winning moment in Paris. And with that, he added a caption that cleared the air around his season debut, “Back around the Oval 4.26, 📍@drakerelays.” Well, he’s officially getting back to competing in a few days, slated to run on April 26 at the 3-day event. And while this announcement was met with great reactions from the Woodhall army, there’s one Olympic champ who couldn’t hold herself back from responding too.

It was the Paris Olympics women’s 100m hurdles champion, Masai Russell, who commented on Hunter Woodhall’s post. Russell wrote, “See you there 🤝🏽,” indicating that while she’s excited to watch Hunter compete, she might be coming down to the Drake Relays too. And it’s not just them. Tara Davis-Woodhall added a similar post with her pictures from Paris and wrote, “Back in the pit. 4.26.”

The Drake Relays are coming to Des Moines, Iowa, soon, and they’re set to feature some big shots, including Olympic three-peat champion Ryan Crouser. But when it comes to Hunter Woodhall, this shall be the first time he shows up at this event. Also, it’s unusually late for his season start this time.
Tara Davis-Woodhall and her husband kick off the season late?
Well, with 2024 being an exception, Hunter Woodhall has kicked off most seasons quite early. He started 2023 at the Razorback Invitational in January 2023. The year 2022 started off in January as well at the Arkansas Invitational. 2021, 2020, and 2019 also had a similar pattern when Hunter Woodhall kicked off his season at college invitational mostly, right at the start of the year. But this time, he waited 4 months till April to set things in motion. Maybe he wished to give his body that rest after Paris? Or he’s quite laid back this year.
Whereas, for Tara Davis-Woodhall, things have been more or less identical. She kicked off both 2024 and 2023 at the Razorback Invitational in January. The rest of her seasons also feature an early start. But this time, she’s waited around till April. Until now, she kept herself occupied by attending podcasts with her husband and all those post-Paris endeavors. But it’s about time she gets back into action, right? So, let’s keep our eyes glued on the 26th of this month. However, what do you think can be the reason for the unusual delay this season?
