In 2024, ATHLOS burst onto the track and field scene, revolutionizing women’s athletics with an unprecedented event at New York City’s Icahn Stadium, offering a staggering $663,000 in prize money, the largest purse ever for a women’s-only track meet. It attracted elite talent from around the globe. More than 3 million viewers tuned in across platforms like X, YouTube, ESPN+, DAZN, and ESPN2, it has proved that there’s a massive audience hungry for elite women’s track and field.
Each race winner took home $60,000, with standout performances like that of 200m Olympic bronze medalist Brittany Brown, who earned $85,000 for her exceptional finishes in both the 100m and 200m events. But ATHLOS was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of sport, culture, and entertainment. So the question now is how do they plan to top last year’s groundbreaking event?
Well, ATHLOS made it official with a simple but powerful announcement on X. “The date is set. The city is set. ATHLOS NYC 10.10.25. See you there.” With those 14 words, the buzz is already building. And it didn’t take long for the excitement to grow. CITIUS MAG quickly followed up, confirming that ATHLOS, the groundbreaking women’s-only track and field meet, will once again take over Icahn Stadium on October 10, 2025. After making history in its debut year, the high-energy event is returning with an even bigger vision: more competition, more entertainment, and an even stronger lineup of elite athletes.

Reddit co-founder and venture capitalist Alexis Ohanian, the driving force behind ATHLOS, had hinted during the inaugural event that ATHLOS wouldn’t be a one-and-done experiment, and now, he’s making good on that promise in a big way. Taking to X, he wrote, “Hope to see y’all there! We had a hell of a time last year. This year will be even better.” And if his words are anything to go by, fans and athletes alike can expect a spectacle that not only builds on last year’s foundation but aims to raise the bar even higher. While the 2024 event shattered expectations, Ohanian knows there’s still work to be done.

Ohanian expanded on his excitement in a statement on Wednesday morning, saying, “The moment I stepped into Icahn last year, it was immediately apparent that we had to do it again—somehow even bigger. The appetite, the atmosphere, the energy—it was obvious. The reception from the athletes, fans, and broader public was beyond what we could have imagined. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what surprises we have in store for 2025.” His words hint at an even more ambitious vision for ATHLOS, one that could include bigger prize money and entertainment designed to rival major global sporting events.
More than a meet: ATHLOS returns with star power
Early commitments already include some of the biggest names in track and field as highlighted by CITIUS MAG on X: Olympic gold medalists Gabby Thomas, Masai Russell, Marileidy Paulino, and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. These aren’t just star athletes. They’re icons in the sport. Gabby, the 200m sensation, is a two-time Olympic medalist and one of the fastest women in history over the distance. Russell, known for her dominance in the 100m hurdles, has been a force to be reckoned with on the NCAA circuit and beyond. Marileidy, the reigning 400m world champion, has been unstoppable on the track, consistently delivering gold-medal performances. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the Puerto Rican hurdle queen, made history by winning Olympic gold in the 100m hurdles in Tokyo. She remains one of the sport’s most electrifying stars.

On the other hand, it’s also doubling down on its mission to elevate women’s track and field. “Every move we made was in response to either asking the athletes what they wanted or deciding they deserved better,” ATHLOS chief marketing officer Kayla Green explained. From prize money to athlete experience, ATHLOS isn’t just listening; it’s leading. If last year’s event proved anything, it’s that ATHLOS isn’t just about the competition. It’s about revolutionizing women’s sports. Beyond the track, ATHLOS turned race day into an entertainment spectacle, featuring a DJ set, a live performance by Megan Thee Stallion.
Last year, ATHLOS electrified the track just two weeks after the Diamond League final, giving athletes another high-stakes stage to shine. This year, the event lands 19 days after the World Championships in Tokyo, setting the stage for some of the season’s fiercest showdowns.
