“I thought I’d spend my career here…” said former Dallas Mavericks Point Guard on February 2nd. The statement came after Luka Dončić moved away from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. The world dropped its jaw, fans were left in anguish, Twitter blew up and messages, speculations, and accusations started pouring in. But, no one thought about one particular athlete getting emotional over Luka’s trade. Though we can’t say that her reaction was shocking!

Drumrolls! It is Sha’Carri Richardson! Yes, the sprinting queen seems to be feeling emotional and now she has expressed the same. Sharing a repost on her Instagram story just a few minutes back, Richardson made her emotions somewhat clear. The story she shared was a repost by ‘Bleacher Report,’ ‘NBA TV’, and ‘NBA on TNT.’ “Mavs post Luka farewell video (emotional emoji heartbreak emoji),” read the picture caption.

The original video was uploaded by the Dallas Mavericks on their Instagram handle and oh boy! It ran high on emotions. “It has been an honour to enjoy your magic (emoji emoji)”, read the caption. The said video featured snippets of 5x All-NBA 1st Team’s time with the Mavericks along with his voiceover. One particular phrase by 2019 Rookie of the Year caught all the attention and emotion. In one of the past interviews, Luka could be heard saying, “It’s something big, it’s the team that drafted me and the team that trusted me, so I’m very happy to represent Dallas.” But sadly, he will no longer be representing Dallas and it seems not just fans but Sha’Carri Richardson is also feeling every bit of it.

Though she hasn’t commented on the trade yet the story she has shared is no less than a statement. And honestly, no one would have expected her reaction to be among the floods of reaction but it wasn’t surprising at all. Since the Parisian Golden Girl is herself a Dallas native. It wasn’t just some hometown emotions that might have taken over her as she seems to be an avid follower of the Mavericks. Do you remember how six months back after winning her Olympic gold, she posed with Dirk Nowitzki, 2007 MVP, the Mavs legend? Richardson and Nowitzki were attending the men’s basketball finals in Paris paired between USA and France on 11th August 2024. Sha’Carri Richardson Had a true fan girl moment as she captioned her Instagram story, “Meeting Mr. Dirk as a South Dallas girl made my life.”

Also, in November 2023 Sha’Carri Richardson attended the Dallas Mavericks match against the LA Clippers. And hold your breath, because none other than Luka Dončić, was the star of the match. He scored a whopping 44 points to topple the Clippers. Thus, having witnessed the brilliance of Luka, it was natural for the Olympian to repost the heartbreaking news of his exit from her hometown team.

But one particular clip was extra special as it featured a Nike banner with LeBron on it and its flip side had an image of Sha’Carri.

Also, during the Paris Olympics men’s basketball finals, She went to cheer and celebrate LeBron. Not just that, on September 3, Sha’Carri shared an NBA post on LeBron James on her Instagram story and captioned him, “This is a legend!” A true queen move right? But, wait the story doesn’t end her. When in 2023, Sha’Carri Richardson became 100 meter World Champion, James’s wife Savannah James came forward to congratulate the star athlete. She posted a series of flower emojis and tagged Sha’Carri’s official Instagram handle on the comment section of the post by ‘Spiritual Word’ to celebrate her glorious win.
