The 60m event is turning out to be a new track and field favorite. Record times, unanticipated shifts, and cut-throat competition, it’s packed with all the elements of a blockbuster race. And at the 117th Millrose Games 2025, we saw exactly that. On one hand was the experienced Trayvon Bromell and on the other, the NCAA Florida Gator, Pjai Austin, vying for glory. But an NFLer turned track athlete jumped into the scene and stole the show!

We’re talking about a new name that’s been buzzing on the track since morning and that’s Marcellus Moore. The athlete came out of nowhere and stunned the 60m field. His next goal? “Definitely going to run out USAs within a couple weeks,” he said after the race But for now, he’s self-admittedly getting back into the lab, focusing on continuing to do what he’s been doing. Watch the race results and you’ll get a hint of why Moore’s the talk of the track and field town currently.

As reported by Chris Chavez in an X post, at the Millrose Games 2025, Marcellus Moore took down the men’s 60m win in a personal best time of 6.56 seconds. Whereas, Trayvon Bromell was a close second, despite clocking a season-best of 6.59s. Well, this is Bromell’s second consecutive loss of the season after finishing fifth at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix last weekend, where Noah Lyles stole the show. Maybe it’s the rust after his injury. But what’s so special about Moore beating Bromell?

Well, Trayvon Bromell is a seasoned sprinter and the 2016 world indoor champion in the 60m. Whereas, Marcellus Moore is a 22-year-old track athlete who not long ago swapped sports from the field game, NFL. Yes, you heard us! Until 2020, Moore was at Purdue, juggling two sports—football and track and field. One was his first love, and the other was a sport he’d shown great promise in. But by 2021, he entered the transfer portal, shifted to Texas, and went all-in on sprinting. And clearly, things started to fall into place!

But before that, for the longest time, Marcellus Moore felt stuck. Really stuck. “I kind of felt like I was stuck in the same place,” he wasn’t able to see any progress in his career. The reason? he cites it, “I was playing two sports, and I just felt like I wasn’t getting better at either sport. I felt like I just needed a change of environment.” And once he shook things up a bit, he began an upward trajectory. Right after the track and field swap, he kicked off 2022 with a 60m silver and a 7th finish in the 200, both of which still helped the Longhorns to the Big 12 indoor title.

In fact, Moore’s been running very consistent 60m times ever since. In 2022 and 2023, he clocked solid times at the Tiger Paw Invite—6.61 and 6.56 seconds. 2024, though, was a bit of a rollercoaster, dipping under 6.6 just once all season. And 2025? That’s started off like a dream for the track and field star! Moore started his season early, racing through January like a man on a mission. And so far? PS: he hasn’t lost a single race.
