The 2025 did not start great for Quincy Wilson. Many, including himself, were expecting at least a few big wins. The reality was the complete opposite, as the Paris gold medalist first lost at the Virginia Showcase. This was followed by successive failures to reach number one at both the Millrose games and the US Indoors. Yet the Olympian isn’t one to give up easily. As if to convey that directly, the 17-year-old won yet another trophy this Friday to regain his winnings. But did the champ’s mum have to say on this? Well, let’s get on to that.
Now, as soon as Quincy crossed the finish line, Citius Mag tweeted, “The Champ Is Back.” But as he won the 400m title, it was his mother who looked the most excited. Cituis Mag, on the other hand, weren’t afraid to show their support. “🗣️ “MOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVE!” The simplest instructions go the longest way in track,” tweeted Citius Mag with a video of the 17-year-old’s race.
The tweet further continued, “🎙️ Mic’ed up with Quincy Wilson’s mom Monique at New Balance Nationals as he ran the easiest 46.55 to lead all the final qualifiers out of the prelims.” The Mag had edited a video of Monique Wilson instructing her son from the crowd. After all, she had just one word for her son. “Let’s go!” But she wouldn’t be one to let her son slack, as she followed this up with, “You better move!

Now, it’s not good to ignore your mother’s warning. Quincy didn’t; he quickly picked up speed, leaving his opponents behind, and soon as he was in the clear, the excitement was evident in Monique’s voice as she said, “Let’s go, let’s go! Let’s go! Come on, Quincy!” The Olympian must be racing, but you can’t deny that his mother stressed as well.

The Paris Olympics winner was once again motivated by another “move” before he finally ran past the finish line, winning the race ahead of the high school competitors and getting praised by her mother, who said, “Good job, buddy!” The Virginia native was himself amused by the incident; Citius Mag posted the same video over their Instagram, which Quincy posted on his story, saying, ‘”move.“😂‘ But while he did win the race, Quincy also missed breaking a record.

Quincy Wilson couldn’t beat his personal best
Now, it is an understatement to say that Quincy is fast. After all, just on Friday, he recorded a 46.55 on the way to his win. But you might be surprised to know this is not his best. While his time this year was good, it was slow in comparison to his record in 2024, when he finished with a 45.76-second time. This allowed him to not only win but break an existing record.

With this, he broke the record of Newburgh Free Academy’s Elzie Coleman, who had recorded a 45.92 in 2004. This record stood for 20 years till Quincy Wilson decided to break it. But even this pales in comparison to his personal best of 45.13 seconds. But then again, he achieved that on the outdoor tracks, so the conditions might differ a little.
Regardless, the 2025 NB Outdoor is coming to Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 19-22; what do you think? Is he defending it? Another record, maybe?
