When asked just before the Paris Olympics who Joscelyn Roberson would first call if she won an Olympic Gold, the then 18-year-old confessed, “Probably my dad, because he understands how much I wanted this and how long I have worked for it.” The Olympian has had her parents right behind her, backing her gymnastics dreams, while she keeps dazzling the fans with her powerful floor routines and vaults. And as she chases her ultimate Olympic dream, let’s get to know her parents, who will ensure Joscelyn Roberson has everything she needs to succeed.

Meet Jeffrey Roberson: Joscelyn Roberson’s Father

Joscelyn gets the sporting knack from her father, Jeffrey Roberson, who was a baseball player during his younger days. Hailing from Texarkana, Joscelyn’s dad graduated from Liberty-Eylau High School and would go to Texas A&M-Texarkana. Supporting his daughter in her dreams has meant protecting her from online savagery. “She has a pretty large Instagram following on her professional account. I block out anything that people send to her that is inappropriate,” Jeffrey had said to Texarkana Parents in September 2021.

Seeing his daughter as an Olympian doesn’t make him forget the reality that she is still just 19 years old. He has been a working man, being deployed at the Red River Army Depot for more than 20 years, but his duty as a vigilant parent is so paramount, more so as his daughter’s stardom will come with responsibilities: “You can find information easily online, and we have had to really talk to Joscelyn about safety. We talk about what she should and shouldn’t say online.”

She is a fearless gymnast ready to take on the world. But Jeffrey Roberson cannot help being the best dad who would do anything for her: “She’s really mature, but she’s also so young, and it’s just scary to think about the things people will say and do”. He remembers one particular moment that will be etched in his memory forever. Joscelyn Roberson’s Razorback debut on January 11, 2025 – when she completed her floor routine, and all her teammates and team staff surrounded her chanting “10”.

Seeing her long journey up close, Jeffrey Roberson is just happy to see his daughter enjoying the sports, while also being fabulous at it. Meanwhile, Mrs. Roberson is more focused on ensuring the family values aren’t lost while her daughter chases her dream.

Meet Ashley Roberson: Joscelyn Roberson’s Mother

“She (Joscelyn) might be an Olympian one day, but today she’s still going to take out the trash”. That’s how Ashley Robertson has raised her daughter. Grounded in modest family values while also giving attention to academics. After all, she herself is a pharmaceutical chemist. Ashley Roberson incidentally is also a Liberty-Eylau High School graduate, having been born in Spring, Texas.

For her, seeing her daughter nail the final routine at meets is the perfect way to celebrate her daughter. She doesn’t want to see Joscelyn fail, not even in training: “I don’t like to watch all of the falls. Jeff loves to watch her practice, but I usually just go to the meets so I can see the finished product. Otherwise, it’s an emotional roller coaster for me while she’s learning.”

So, in a way, Ashley having to move to Spring worked out perfectly for her daughter’s Gymnastics journey. Bidding adieu to Northeast Texas Elite Gymnastics Centre, the Texarkana native gymnast would go to join World Champions Centre, the world-famous gym run by Simone Biles’ parents, where Olympics gold medalists are bred. This is where Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles train, under the guidance of Hall of Famer coaches, Cecile and Laurent Landi.

Joscelyn Roberson didn’t want to leave her home, but it was a decision that helped her elite gymnastics dream. She can dream of Olympics Gold. But that only means her mother doubles down on doing things to emphasize normalcy. “We really just try to make sure she has the life of a normal kid.” But how weird is it! It was Ashley Roberson’s decision to enroll her daughter into a gymnastics class that started off this journey to stardom as a family.

What is Joscelyn Roberson’s Parents’ Nationality?

Joscelyn’s parents, Jeffrey and Ashley Roberson, are American citizens. They have been long-time residents of Texas, where they have raised their 3 kids, Jami, Jackson, and Joscelyn. They have deep roots in Texarkana, Texas, and their ideals of family together resonate through the community. For that, Ashley Roberson has ensured they do as many things together as possible: “We don’t do too many big things without the whole family. We don’t want to create family memories unless we can all be there.”

And even the small things like having dinner together, all at the table together with one another, sharing everything. Being there for one another is what she is teaching them: “As much as they (Jami and Jackson) all support everything Joscelyn does, she supports them just as much in the things they do”. A beautiful way Jeffrey and Ashley ensure Joscelyn can always stay on top of it mentally – the Joscelyn’s gymnastics trick.

“When they go to a meet and they don’t do well, they’re just devastated,” Ashley said to Texarkana Parents. “We just remind her (Joscelyn) that she has to focus on what she does best, not what anyone else is doing. She just has to focus on Joscelyn’s Gymnastics and be the best that she can be.”

Joscelyn’s Gymnastics means a fabulous Freshman outing and the very possibility of an Olympics medal at the 2028 LA Games.
