“From 2016 through 2019, I was flying to different countries and seeing different doctors...” Trayvon Bromell’s words from 2022 highlight an unfortunate reality—injuries have troubled him for as long as he can remember. Fast forward to 2025 now, and this shadow has once again lingered on his much-anticipated comeback. Hours away from the 2025 U.S. Indoor Championships, the man voiced probably one of the most agonizing decisions of his life. With track and field, these last-minute changes are never out of the picture.
The scene for one of the most thrilling men’s 60m races was set at the U.S. Indoor Championships. With both veterans and NCAA juggernauts in the competition, track and field fans were raring to watch who weighs heavily over whom: Ronnie Baker, Trayvon Bromell, and other pros or the young guns Marcellus Moore, Pjai Austin, Ajani Dwyer, etc. We’re talking about some of the fastest 60m runners of 2025, with Baker sitting at #3 this year, Moore at #29, and so on. But, the odds of winning just went up as Trayvon Bromell has announced a heartbreaking update. And this changes everything!
On February 22, Trayvon Bromell took to Instagram and added a story updating that he has decided to scratch from the 2025 U.S. Indoor Championships. He wrote, “After meeting with USATF Medical Staff and my team, we’ve decided to back out of USATF indoor championships.” Yes, it feels like a gut punch! And not just to us, but probably a gazillion more times to the athlete. He even penned, “A frustrating decision but one that make sense for the duration of the track and field season.” While the exact cause of his withdrawal is yet to be made known, it’s most definitely a lingering injury or a health condition, considering his discussions with the medical team.

A peek into Trayvon Bromell’s injury-ridden past makes this piece of news even more heartbreaking. Back in May 2024, while Bromell was running a 100m race in Savona, Italy, he suffered an injury in his foot. And it was not just a niggle. “Trayvon hurt his adductor in the race in Savona” was the news in the town. This meant the 2x World 100m bronze medalist had to miss the U.S. Olympic Trials and his only shot at Paris!

If you think this is it for his injuries, think again. Describing his painful injury history in a 2022 NBC interview, Trayvon Bromell said, “I had surgery on my left and right knees from breaking those. I injured my left hip. I had a right forearm fracture as well. So left knee left hip. Right knee, right forearm. Then the Achilles bone spur I had back in 2016 lingered on through 2017 with getting the bone spur removed and then getting the tendon cleaned up itself. So two surgeries on that.” Well, it’s too much to even keep count of. Clearly, injuries have jinxed some of the most crucial days of his career.
But 2025 was looking different. Trayvon Bromell opened his season with a 6.62s 60m win at the Texas Tech Corky Classic. That’s when his fans expressed, “Glad to see he’s back and hopefully have an injury-free season.” Yes, he may have slipped to a low 5th finish at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. But he recovered well with a 6.59s silver run at the 2025 Millrose Games. And given that Bromell owns a 60m personal best of 6.42s from 2023, which is tied for No. 6 on the all-time list, he was never considered out of competition.

However, now, the much-anticipated Ronnie Baker vs. Trayvon Bromell 60m race shall no longer be happening at the U.S. Indoors. Here’s what that means!
The Trayvon Bromell vs. Ronnie Baker show? Canceled!
Well, the world’s gaze was on the men’s 60m race at the 2025 U.S. Indoor Championships this weekend. But especially at Ronnie Baker and Bromell. Both are making their comebacks in 2025 and wish to emerge at the top. However, the numbers hinted that it was going to be nail-bitingly close! The two have gone head-to-head 4 times in the 60m, the last one being in 2022. And as per the wins, the two Americans are tied at 2-2. So yes, this race was going to be decisive. But sadly not anymore! With Trayvon Bromell backing out, Baker’s winning chances have shot up.

Still, the results can go anywhere. Because if you are counting the NCAA phenoms out, don’t! Just at the recent 2025 Millrose Games, they’ve shown us their top speeds! Remember, Marcellus Moore had tied his personal best at 6.56s to narrowly restrict Trayvon Bromell in the second spot? Also, Pjai Austin with a 6.61 on the board was not a distant thirdcomer. Thus, even though Bromell may be out for now, consider that the U.S. Indoor men’s 60m is still going to be a hit show!
Also, a few days back, there was even talk around the town that Erriyon Knighton may have scratched from the same event. However, that is unconfirmed yet. But if that turns out to be true, what will your changed predictions after these withdrawals be? Let us know below!
